mediocre reception (sorry to say) for one of my favorite films, a true gem from the '90s. Poletti, giving this film a 1 is stupid, for various reasons, starting with the excellent acting (Gary Oldman above all), moving on to the well-crafted and intelligent screenplay, and ending with the direction, simply perfect. If you really didn't like it, you could have given it a 2, but giving it a 1 means putting it in the same barrel as movies with Seagal, Norris, or Van Damme. And here, objectively, we are on another planet.

but what approximate sound, what does it mean? the overdubs are intentional, Machina is deliberately gothic and dark in its sound, period. And it's still a damn good concept album, no matter what they say.

excellent analysis vic, I respect your opinion but I don't fully agree with the discussion regarding the voice, which I believe is more central than ever in this album. As already mentioned, BC/JC picks up right where it left off, and the numerous detractors of Machina have an easy time tearing down the new album. What you might not understand, though, is that in order not to repeat itself, the album could never be very different from what it is. Like it or not, this is the evolution, and as you underline, Corgan is proud of it. As I said before, take it or leave it.

what it means, Siamese Dream is the best album by the Pumpkins and it was composed and recorded by Corgan practically by himself. Those are just session musicians, but on the other hand, D'Arcy was never more than an instrument either. Iha, for his part, did as he pleased; many other bands have survived and moved on without the original lineup.
