but let's stop bringing up Apocalypse Now, which has nothing to do with this... it's not the same theme, it's not the same era, and the armed conflict is not even the main theme of Coppola's film. And the intro of AN, although impactful, stands no chance against the modern techniques of Spielberg. In fact, to be honest, there isn't a better opening sequence for a war film than the one in this movie. Make peace with it and go rewatch AN; if you waste time comparing it to SPR, you might have missed something.

technically flawless, the budget is fine, but scenes like the beginning and the end are not directed by just any fool. Aesthetics and technique prevail over content; the film is part of cinema history, certainly not for its plot.
