What you say makes sense, but listen to Desertshore and then we can talk about it again. Also, Nico's greatness goes far beyond his simple technical skills.

I too feel compelled to quote a significant part of the pretazzo. However, I also agree with the latest posts by mandragola, who, among other things, demonstrates considerable musical knowledge. But I would like to know: which equally beautiful records do you think haven't had the same luck? And what do you mean by luck, of course...
@ale: learn to think for yourselves... if you're a fan of the Beatles, I don't think you have the chance to speak; otherwise, appreciating the Velvet in most cases means thinking for yourself... Generally, I hear people talk about the Beatles over here, the Rolling Stones over there, the Velvets are still little known by the masses and certainly won't be talked about on TV, which we know is the greatest obstacle to free thought :-).

Floydman: "The Velvet didn't make any 'best album of all time', which, from my point of view, should be credited rather to a prog group or better yet to Pink Floyd, indeed definitely to them."
What are you saying? The only album by the Floyd (whom I adore) that can be compared is the first one, which for me doesn't reach such a level or maybe it does, I don't know. But the others, no. And what does it mean 'to a prog group'? Name one, that doesn’t make any sense as stated, it's a cliché.

I’ll jump into the mandragola-Morrison discussion: I completely disagree with mandragola’s argument about masterpiece status and the mythical aura that supposedly surpasses the actual qualities of the album. You talk about the gurus as a niche group, but the Velvet in '67 were exactly that—a niche, alternative group that sold very little. So, their current fame is all (or almost all) due to the quality and innovation of their work, not to advertising campaigns, etc. For me, the banana has little to do with it; the first time I heard it, I was blown away and didn’t know about the banana.
However, I do agree that Jim might be slightly biased :-). Well, after Nico’s oral performance in the elevator, I guess it’s understandable.. :-)
