I don't consider Nirvana a group of absolute geniuses, nor a particularly innovative band; they just composed that "little pile" of songs with perfect alchemy that made them explode. Cobain's death is just a sad corollary to the somewhat artificial-commercial flavor of their posthumous success. It's a bit difficult to answer your question. I believe that the power (and catchiness) of their songs would have broken through in other periods as well, but, as I mentioned before, they perfectly hit the right moment to emerge. Nowadays, they would just be another rock band (like the White Stripes); the '70s were overflowing with these riffs and much tougher bands that perhaps went unnoticed. The '80s, due to some kind of curse (or blessing depending on the point of view), had virtually banned guitar riffs and rock songs, aside from rare exceptions, and for them, there probably wouldn’t have been any space. In summary... the right place, at the right time.

Hi Grendel, thank you very much, but anyway, these are just simple comments from a music enthusiast. Regarding Nirvana, with this concert review, I just wanted to "capture" a very personal memory of mine. A memory based on a live performance and the subsequent news of the singer's death, which was shocking to me at the time. As for my judgment on their albums, of course, I was influenced by them; I like them a lot, but I believe their value lies more in the spirit of renewal they brought than in the songs themselves. At that time, there were some really tough bands, like Mother Love Bone that you mentioned, but probably the depressed, negative, "dirty" image of the singer combined with those catchy songs that appealed to the wider audience, along with the guitar riffs that immediately got under your skin, all just after the plastic '80s with all those sugary synthesizers, I think made the difference compared to other more niche bands.

Masterpieces like the ones you mean can be counted on one hand. From the '80s, this album is definitely among my top ten favorites. It's a stunning record, with great songs, sung beautifully, and captivating melodies. Of course, I don't think we should make the mistake of considering it a proper jazz album. Rather, it’s "high-class" pop. I don’t believe it’s just background music, but simply music to be listened to. For me, it’s a full 5 (along with its first CD).

Lemur, let me clarify: we're talking about the votes on RECORDS, absolutely not the reviews. This "bastard" (I could use a little rant...) always and indiscriminately gives 1 and 1.

Yes Mullah, I don't think anyone here is "taking it personally." I just believe it’s a slightly illogical voting system. Moreover, a young person who wants to see, with the list of the most favored albums, the favorites from the readers and doesn't find Jarrett's album? I mean, it is not, at least for me, a personal offense, but rather a matter of “softwaristic” sloppiness.

No, sorry. After the nice review, I immediately turned on the light. You scared me a bit, Proust.

In the heat of the post, I forgot the votes (I agree with Gabbox)...

I intervene in total agreement (and support) with Grasshopper. There is "someone" (I have a politically incorrect definition that comes to mind) who discovered that there are records with an average of 5 that can be lowered in the blink of an eye, after, perhaps for weeks, receiving numerous positive votes reaching that average of 5, indeed. Now, "this" person, since he has also lowered two of my reviews (the reviewed records, to be precise), is not very likable to me, to the point that I suggested to the editors not to count the votes of anonymous users anymore (since by checking the yellow box you can make them disappear, but even so their malicious votes affect the same average…). Now, I feel sorry for the various Nobody, lovemusic, etc. who, out of prejudice, remain blank, but I would find it appropriate to eliminate the votes from these individuals. I mean, a little logic should be applied. Remove the anonymous along with the vote. Especially because, in my opinion, this "big jerk" does not express judgments but enjoys playing pranks by making records like Are you experienced by Hendrix or records by Miles Davis or Creedence disappear from the list... Unfortunately, it seems that not everyone knows how to handle freedom.
