I like it a lot. At first, it didn't impress me much, but then I became fascinated by its subtle charm.
Children Of Bodom Hatebreeder
Voto:
I'm proceeding to listen to "Hatebreeder," the second album by Children Of Bodom and also the second work I'm experiencing from the Finnish band, following the good "Follow The Reaper." First of all, based on the reviews, I expected a decidedly more aggressive album, considering that "Follow The Reaper" is regarded as the least aggressive album by the band. In reality, I don't quite agree, as I find "Hatebreeder" very light and melodic. It is more inspired compared to the subsequent chapter, but not more aggressive. The band does not sound like melodic death metal at all, in my opinion: the riffs are clearly of a power metal origin, as are the baroque keyboard elements and the solos, which are very neoclassical and indebted to guitarists like Malmsteen. There are a few death metal riffs, but they only make sporadic appearances. The only extreme element in Children Of Bodom is Alexi's vocals. Paradoxically, I find them closer to bands like their fellow countrymen Nightwish (the riffs and keyboards are very similar) than to melodic death metal bands like Dark Tranquillity. This is not to undermine the album; in fact, I believe "Hatebreeder" is a fresh, melodic, engaging, and well-produced album. For now, it's the best work by the Finnish band. Tracks like "Children Of Bodom" are absolutely exhilarating.
