Alexi Laiho and his band never cease to amaze, and they continue to do so in the year 2005, the year this new album titled "Are You Dead Yet?" is released.
The anticipation is high because after a convincing album, even though it left many perplexed like "Hate Crew Deathroll," Children Of Bodom unleash an album that I think is magnificent. An album raw, violent, and very Thrash that captures the attention of anyone who listens to it. The album starts with three splendid songs, which are "Living Dead Beat", "Are You Dead Yet?" and "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War". They are spectacular songs, adrenaline-fueled, that will forever remain in the setlists of COB's concerts. The chorus of "Are You Dead Yet?" stuck in my mind and every day I sing it to the point of exhaustion.
After this phenomenal impact composed of these three gems, comes what I think is the weak point of the album, namely the song "Punch Me I Bleed". I don't know why, but I just can't like this song, maybe because it's simply awful or perhaps, who knows. After this song, there's the first single extracted from the album, namely "In Your Face".
With a very direct title, the song is really very beautiful, and COB did well to promote it as the opening single of the CD. Anyway, the album continues with the songs "Next In Line", "Bastards Of Bodom", "Trashed, Lost & Strungout" and ends with "We're Not Gonna Fall". All 4 great songs.
In short, as I already said, the CD is magnificent and certainly, in my opinion, the best after "Hatebreeder"; in total there are 9 songs with a total duration of 37 minutes. Maybe a bit short, but bravo Children for packing all these great songs into such a limited amount of time.
'Are You Dead Yet?' is a very technical album, but it doesn’t resonate.
The solos lack feeling, they are uninspired.
With 'Are You Dead Yet?' the Children of Bodom take another step forward, reaching what they did not achieve with 'Hate Crew...'.
You will hardly forget the choruses of 'Are You Dead Yet?', 'Trashed, Lost & Strungout', 'We're Not Gonna Fall'.
"Are You Dead Yet?" is a great album, with some tracks that deserve to be listened to over and over again, however, it fails to live up to the masterpiece "Hatebreeder."
The title track reaches its peak of cruelty and violence in the chorus... leaving you perplexed in a good way.
"'Are You Dead Yet?' presents itself as an experiment by the band in search of a unique and always new sound."
"At first impact, 'Are You Dead Yet?' mostly appears as a weak, dull, dry album, almost a disappointment, that does not offer much to the listener..."
A great job, guys, with ultra-powerful and gritty tracks at extremely and damnably warlike rhythms!
If after 8 years you’ve never heard it WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU WAITING FOR? ... BREAK YOUR EARS!!!!!!
