The guy is Canadian, and in the mix of races, he ended up with this French surname (See Canada colonized by France, mounsier). Oui oui, pay for the pizza! XD

Nick, if it’s not your business, stay out of it. Nice review. I don't think I'll listen to the album...

Sure Kobra, in practice having that childish punk spirit. It has the childishness, but not the coherence.

But the point, dear son of the moon, is not who the hell I am, but who the hell is Omar Rodriguez! But not being understood as identification, being understood as "being," "essence." Can I say that I am? Can I say what being is? Can I say how one does and is? And, above all, how do I tell dear Omar if he is and what he is if he "is"?

I see with disappointment that the discussion has devolved into a childish little soup of stereotypes/insults and alleged homosexualities... Really punk stuff...

Sanjuro, it's not about the total unimportance of punk; if we want, metal has taken quite a bit from the punk attitude, take thrash for example. The Metallica were admirers of the Misfits, if you know what I mean. I can't stand the concept of 4 chords = Genius / complex architecture = Show-off. This crap annoys me quite a bit, and many people use it. As for Dream Theater, it would be better to keep them out of this discussion because it leads nowhere… Let’s talk about prog rock, let’s talk about King Crimson, let’s talk about Rush, let’s talk about Area, and let’s see if all of punk in general reaches the genius of a single composition from these people. For me, no, absolutely not. The pissed-off 4 chords are fun, yes, it's also "art," but it’s a childish view of music, as it was said, it's minimizing, it doesn't represent an evolution of rock. Regarding the missing ideas, I can only agree, although from my point of view, music is mostly emotion, so originality isn't always a necessity. And if we want the ultra-experimental group, sure, it’s genius, but then it doesn't convey anything to you...

I find it amusing how those who are into punk disparage progressive music. I am biased; I don’t think punk is crap (Actually, I like it), but for me, the creativity and emotions expressed by prog bands are something that the punks (those angry at the world, anarchic, out of control, fuck you, oh yeah, who then got depressed and turned dark...) can only dream of... and if there's hatred towards "complex" music, it's thanks to these idiots. I love you guys too! :)

I download and burn them, I'm a pirate. But a real pirate, I even have an eye patch and a wooden leg... if dad (the captain) sees that I buy a CD, he’ll throw me off the ship... he has an old-fashioned mindset...

Art is feeling; a painting is worth what it gives you, not how well it's drawn, and the same goes for music. However, it’s also true that the more you know how to do, the more you can do. Technique should be seen as an additional possibility for creation. I still have to listen to this CD by the Mars Volta. I like them, but they also kind of annoy me with their constant need to do something different; I feel few emotions... as happens with a lot of other music (even though I might objectively like it). I get many more emotions from Dream Theater... but De-Gustibus, anyway...
