Shakira Oral Fixation Vol.2

Well, between the image and the title there's such a concentration of "meaning" that it allows us to exclude the "signifier" sound without too many worries. I connect to Socrates' brief analysis to add a curious detail: the Adam in question is represented by a little boy (clear, indeed, the reference to the oral phase), perhaps also implying a definitive regression of the average male, faced with the "apple," to a childish and obsessive dimension. As already excellently summarized by that fine thinker named Elio, in his fundamental text "Figli della gleba." Without dismissing the wisdom of popular culture in the evocation of the famous cart of oxen. - The record will sooner or later be listened to. For now, I note the adoration of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who considers this beautiful human specimen one of the most remarkable artists of his country. I think that perhaps G.G.M. has long expressed the best of his literary production, but this still seems to me a remarkable demonstration of our subject's excellent psycho-physical state. :))

I bought the vinyl of this title when it came out, even though it wasn't in my usual listening genres, out of curiosity sparked by the many enthusiastic reviews I read. I was obviously amazed by the quality, but immediately thought that a guitarist friend of mine (who didn't know it) would appreciate it much more. Naturally, I never saw the record again. In return, my friend became a devoted fan. Reading your thoughts, it seems that, despite the time that has passed, it remains an interesting work that would be worth revisiting...

Today, for example, there’s a little page of mine on a very recent CD by an American duo, to which I would have liked to give something more than a 3, because they are interesting, especially in their attitudes and in the way they "write" songs, and in the fact that in their third work they don’t turn, like many do, towards "easier" directions. So I gave it a 4, but that’s not exactly the rating I would give…

Yes, of course, Zarathustra is true, and I understood it. However, since you've made the comparison in some way, I just wanted to point out my perspective. Just so you know, I've never owned it on CD, and I repeat, I'm relying on a rather old impression. As for the ratings, the very limited possibility represented by the 5 stars necessarily causes difficulties. I find myself giving a 4 to very different albums, even due to the "specific weight" they carry, but while for some I evaluate the "historical" dimension, for others I appreciate factors of anomaly, innovation, personality (and why not, a simple adherence to my highly debatable bad taste) without being able to evaluate from a broader, especially temporal perspective, especially for the more recent ones.

An overly efficient staff, a too rapid turnover, me too slow. In short, I hope to "attach" the samples by the end of the day...

Beautiful, soft, not trivial, with a light from early sunset. Thank you for the suggestion, Charles.

It's been too long since I've listened to it to delve into the details regarding your "vision" of the album. But I know it was often on the turntable back then, and I rely on that impression, which definitely gets a 4. However, I think it's safe to say that comparisons between this and Music for Airports shouldn't be established, as they are two albums that are truly distant in their intentions and outcomes. This one has a character of fragmentariness (not necessarily identifiable with "bad copy") that is completely foreign to the other.

I don't know this record, but bringing this gentleman to the homepage of Debaser with this thought-provoking page was a clever move, ZiOn.

I just finished writing a long boring rant (as usual) and I'm reading this concentrated mix of information and emotions with an absolute sense of envy. And I call my dealer without even listening to the samples, would you believe it? In defiance of my own campaign. Hi, Hal.

Socrates, I interrupt the flow of the "heartfelt appeal" above to tell you that you've brought up a name that I knew I had shamefully overlooked. In the sense that I remember it was one of the records that at the time slipped through my fingers but that I should have listened to, according to friends who were often more informed (and with more reliable tastes) than I. I now consider you one of them. And I'm going to look for it.
