Lisa Germano In The Maybe World

I got the record following various comments in the reviews of its titles by some DeBaser users. It’s certainly an interesting work, yes, but it doesn’t deserve a 5. For me, with a little goodwill, it reaches a 4, which could grow with more listens (my impression is immediate). Knowing the genuine affection surrounding her, which I have somewhat understood while listening to this, I think that, especially for the few but loyal admirers of Germano, you could have provided some more information regarding the production of the album, concerning the very essential sounds and the choice to favor sparse, "naked" arrangements, I would say. And about the crucial partnership with Michael Gira, who I believe also had a part in this. However, I noticed that it seems inevitable, regarding Germano, to read pages multiple times in an attempt to describe emotional scenarios rather than sonic ones. In this sense, in the end, yours seems to succeed.

Don't do that, Sfascia! The disgraceful lack of money is a constant that I've come to terms with, but seeing you list it with such meticulous precision breaks my heart. We're too far apart; otherwise, a corner of my overcrowded den would surely be available. For much more than a wekka, I assure you. P.S. I don't even know if I can manage it for 'na settimana. Kisses.

Oh really? :)) We bounced it back and forth in the comments on some review a while ago, I don't remember with whom. I would love to read yours. - If you find it, I recommend a collection with a lot of material, which I remember being more delicate, by Opal. It's titled "Early Recordings," if I’m not mistaken. Hold on, let me google... Yes, but wow! It’s from '89, Rough Trade, and it’s going for between $45 and $70 on Amazon!!! You might want to take a little trip on the mule, perhaps... it’s worth it. Or arm yourself with patience and sooner or later it will arrive (there are DeB users who have been waiting too long for me to make a promise).... Bye, Socrates.

As soon as I have time, I’ll write one for you. I’m getting some CDs that you’ve mentioned or written about... In fact, even though it might not be exactly your style, you might like an album that came out recently that I’ve been listening to these days (possible references: Cave, J. Spencer B.E, Kurt Weill, the funeral bands of New Orleans) and on which I might write a little page... But sooner or later I need to find the right one, just for you. Not from the past, but recent. Quite a challenge, isn’t it?

Hello, gentlemen. @Santi: did you like it? - @Giorgio: I've taken note. Well, you can feel a bit of Brazil in it, but it's the overall atmosphere that makes it a good work, don't you think? Ah, I'm waiting for the Suba, I found it when it returned and unwisely lent it out.. - @Nick: damn, almost as ignorant as me! You're in bad shape, buddy... - @S4doll: unknown to me as well, it was. The samples serve for a first approach. Then perhaps one thing leads to another... - @Stoopid: your misogynistic joke reminded me of a phrase that roughly went like this: loving intelligent women is a pleasure for pederasts (O.Wilde) And if he said it... No, thanks for the proposal of canon, but we accept goods in kind (squads of decerebrated beings of pleasant appearance) Just kidding, eh... :) - @morningstar: as Giorgioladisa rightly said, this one is less "Brazilian," maybe that side is more present in the first one (which I haven't heard, I'll remedy that now) I know very little, I'm always behind on what I want to listen to. But like everyone, right? - Saludos a todos.

Metalhead Smasher, I do not follow you in the clamor, but I drink from the source of your somewhat staggering eloquence. I will not cross the threshold of the metal sanctuary, hoping you understand and do not hold it against me...
I also thank you for the converter, always useful, in the year of grace MMVI.

Well, my vinyl has been in the hands of some "friend" for ages. But I haven't forgotten John Coltrane's Stereo Blues. And indeed, I will retrieve that friend sooner or later. - You talk about nine tracks, but only eight show up in the link. Not a great service for a fantastic record, don't you think?

This sometimes leads to an excess of words, but I really don’t care much about the number of readers. On the other hand, it seems to me that the reviews that are perceived as the most "useless" tend to have more readers on average. It appears that it’s more interesting, and this applies in every field, to navigate through things one already knows: it’s more reassuring and requires less attention. Perhaps this will be pointed out by some "expert," I imagine, on some website somewhere. The fact remains that the best reviews I’ve read on DeBaser range from a few very brief lines to rich, substantial pages. It’s not a question of "size" (in this regard, one can safely say without fearing that the statement hides a pitiful lie), but rather of meaning and intensity of writing. And it’s not guaranteed that brevity ensures that; the opposite can also be true. As for expert advice, it is always welcome. But they are, in fact, just advice. Each person makes use of it as they see fit, according to their own perspective and possibilities. - Fusillo didn’t seem so irritated to me. Perhaps a bit weary, and I partially understand that. Also because, from your side, Zara, it seems to me I’ve noticed a persistence regarding the things you express and a lack of attention to the meaning of others' responses. But I could be wrong; it’s so hot that I won’t even reread this post, and I might regret having written it. Bai bai.

A nice matter, this of conciseness and effectiveness. It concerns me directly, as I often tend to release pages that are too long, even by my own judgment. However, I believe distinctions must be made. Certain reviews, in addition to providing information and describing impressions of an album, outline a "portrait" of the author, the atmosphere in which the work has matured, and possible connections with other periods, authors, movements, etc. They make, that is, a small attempt to provide useful indications for a possible search on the part of the reader. Or, as in this case, they add to the merely musical description the one relating to a work, to the plot and the characters. If, on the other hand, one wants to write yet another page about yet another album by some well-known band (perhaps, indeed, the 30th on Pink Floyd), then it might be better to handle it with something more personal, maybe a bit bolder than so many assignments (which are also rather long) that really don’t seem to have much reason to exist. But again, it’s all relative to the function one attributes to a place like this: I personally have decided to talk about either very recent or recent albums, never reviewed here, or about old albums, generally little known, that seem to me more interesting and valid than many famous things, or in any case worthy of being re-evaluated or listened to by those who do not know them.
