I'm listening to it and this splendid page has come back to my mind. It's not just beautiful to read you: it's also a pleasure to reread you while listening to the tracks. Hi, Symbad.

Well, Holland seems anything but someone who operates in the background: listen to his Big Band in "Overtime" from 2005 (a spectacular display of orchestration and dialogue between the instruments, a truly enjoyable listen) or the Quintet in the more recent "Critical Mass" (2006). This is from someone who has traversed jazz far and wide and has solidified a style and quality of "writing" that is central and foremost in today's landscape - I was listening to this... I practically don't agree with anything I read. It happens. Great album (4-4.5)

Speaking of "other great reviewers"... hi Hal

One last thing and then I'll leave you alone: I see you're a recent DeUtente and I assume you haven't had a chance to stumble upon the pages of Symbad Bassist, who has long distanced himself from the site (for me, one of the heaviest "defections"). I take the liberty of recommending you read it: you'll encounter titles you may already know (but some perhaps not, and those will be lovely discoveries) described with the immediacy, verve, and "concreteness" of a true enthusiast (sometimes with the excessive enthusiasm that comes with it, but who cares). Without taking anything away from other excellent reviewers, I must admit, regarding Symbad, something that resembles affection. End of the ad. See you again.

Well, Uxo, Gil Evans was THE master of certain orchestrations (what a character, even humanly: very underrated by some jazz enthusiasts who do not appreciate his unique and refined "conceptual" approach) and his work with Davis attests to that. So it doesn't seem strange to me: what left me perplexed was Charley's drastic rejection, who I have always read with pleasure in pages written with the passion of someone who loves to share the joy of listening, and here he seems to want to shield us from a major disappointment instead. But I will take the risk, making a stop at Fnac. After all, at 'stu priezzu...

Just imagine, it’s a pleasure to share such manna... I also really enjoyed Ballads (with the same trio), but this double live album (released a few months ago) showcases versatility combined with skill (which you describe well in your comment) and I actually like it even more. However, lately, I must say I’ve been quite lucky with pianists. One among many: by revisiting many works of John Taylor, I’ve had some truly enjoyable listens, but I imagine you know the subject.. Angel of Presence from 2005, in trio with P. Anderson and M. France, was a great album, but in the same year, also for CAM, he recorded a solo album "Songs and Variations" that is truly splendid. - Anyway, getting back to the point, I must admit I’m not very familiar with Petrucciani’s discography, so I’ve already ordered Trio in Tokio from my trusted dealer. I’ll enjoy it in a few days.

Yes, "Gospel according to Jesus Christ," of course. Christ Christ seems like a repeated curse...

But you know, dear Charley, there are so many things I don't know that your "provocation" seems rather weak. In truth, I've seen this (perhaps no one has ever mentioned it in my presence, it's true) but I've never really listened to it. Yes, I noticed your doubts about the Macero hypothesis and I shared them, indeed. - To put it bluntly: it was naturally a kind of "disguised note" (even if the first of the hypotheses I proposed is plausible) for an image that I found rather unhelpful and not at all pleasant, so definitely avoidable. But... well, then let's at least wish a weekend of "healthy" diarrhea to all the exhausted/anti-musicians who have been feeding us the same "tune" for years... bai bai.

But what do you mean one day, Appestato? Get that record right away. It’s not just joy: here’s the kaleidoscope of moods, the almost complete menu of soul... - Well done Currahee72

And to stay on the theme of live trios in the Land of the Rising Sun, if you haven't heard it yet, make a note of this: PIERANUNZI - JOHNSON - BARON - ā€œLive In Japanā€. Double album from Cam, with recordings made in Tokyo and Yokohama in March 2004. Pieranunzi proves to be a true great, this trio is a delight. And here too, the sound quality is not bad... And, thank God, they are all still alive and kicking :)
