Johann Sebastian Bach - Mischa Maisky Suites Per Violoncello 1-6

I'm doing a bit of targeted self-promotion: I would be curious to know in which category of reviews (according to your standards) you would place the one on "Recorded in Lisbon" by Keith Fullerton Whitman. It's very long and I hope the links included still work... In case you have a few minutes to spare. Hi.

Go ahead, Zaireeka, honored! Every now and then I receive notifications of new comments (wow, so many visits!) and I’m amazed that others make it to the end of this very long page (logorrheic, as dear Deniel keeps repeating). I hope that for some, the desire to listen to the Surtes has been sparked (besides those who have declared it) and that they found enjoyment in it. What could be better? - By the way, about your thoughts on Waits: in many fewer lines you painted pictures that often sounded like the record. What could be better? Bai bai

Damn, luckily after more than twenty years, they’ve reissued it on CD, not so long ago, I believe. For me, it’s their best, even though the "fresher" one, as Supersoul puts it, is the debut. This time I'll spare you the boring posts: the rating for the album is between a 4 and a 5: it depends on the light outside and the level of nostalgia in the air at the moment of the listening...

I hadn't read this additional post and I now see that you also delve into the matter of the "reaction." If you allow me, and then I'll take my leave, I don't believe that what Vera expressed is an opinion stemming from mere "dislike" towards C.; it seems to be a rather considered opinion regarding his music... But now I'll go, have a good evening.

Since the days of that now distant friendship with the pianist, I've been meaning to read some biographies of the great composers: I've been inspired again... - Yes, Contemplation, indeed I didn't mean to assert that everything was entirely shareable, although it was likely partly based; the remark was directed more at the type of reaction, aimed at the interlocutor rather than their discourse. Now, in addition to the polonaises, I have to turn my attention to the lives of Chopin and Liszt... Thank you and bai bai.

Bartle, of course, what you mentioned was, at the time, an anecdote that impressed me greatly: the disarming honesty with which H. admits his complete ignorance regarding female physiology is unforgettable. But since you've brought it up, let's take the opportunity to recommend it to the DePassanti who don't know it, what do you think? "Cinema According to Hitchcock" by F. Truffaut. One of the most enjoyable and "instructive" reads I've ever come across about cinema.

Truffaut... I’m revisiting some of his early films. The more time passes, the more the weaknesses of his works emerge to my eye. I “met” him about thirty years ago; I believe I’ve seen all his films, and if back then I was struck by the personality of his language, by that tender “loving sincerity” towards cinema, today I am increasingly less willing to passively absorb, in favor of his “historization,” what to me are evident shortcomings, not always redeemed by the whole of the film. I rewatched this one about a year ago, and every ten minutes I found myself asking: how could I have liked this so much? And during many shots of C. Deneuve’s face, I nostalgically recalled Viridiana (even more than Belle de jour). Here, dear Bjorky: it was Bunuel who was the right man to reveal the potentials of the lady, as you know. - If I were to give a rating, considering some sort of affection for Truffaut, I would give it a 3 - 3.5. - Bartleboom’s review (is there a connection between the writer and your nickname?) is, as usual, very valid. But it doesn’t get into the specifics of HOW the story is told. And it’s that how that increasingly convinces me less, in some of F.T.'s films. - This is one of them.

And then, the first adventure? Well, if I were you, I wouldn't bet on it...
