Hi, Kosmo. You have to see it, it’s a classic, it shouldn’t be hard to get. Besides everything else (which is quite evident from the review), it has a great formal elegance. Mel Brooks also made a remake in the early '80s (Essere o non essere, in Italian), which was quite successful, but the original is on another level, a gem. If while searching for this you come across other Lubitsch films, I’d like to point out a sort of "moral operetta" that struck me, even if it’s not among his best and has its flaws (particularly an excess of "sentimentalism" that is generally absent in his work). Nevertheless, it has its reason for being and offers interesting insights. It’s called "L'uomo che ho ucciso," and it's from the early '30s.

As a "comic artist" he was not a comic artist, but he was unique and great. Capable of creating a world, in spite of the world, particularly his own. Those who have followed his journey since the beginning know this. I re-watched this film, and I’m glad I did: they would say much more about him, I’m sure, the drawings he made as a child. Every so often, they exhibit them in some exhibition...
