Well, you were the missing piece, Punisher. Now, do me a favor and keep your distance for once: I'd like to respond to my interlocutor. Thank you. -
@ PVC: I'm sure you understood perfectly well what I meant, including "alternative of the mutual," and I'm not intending to start a dialogue with you now. However, I need to clarify a few things that concern me since you're talking about them. 1) The musicians I'm referring to are not just people I know; I have their records, I've listened to them, and (rarely) I listen to them again, but I've also promoted and sold their albums (I had a record store specializing in "avant-gardes," contemporary music, improvised music, jazz in its broadest sense, "real" ethnic music, etc.). I've personally met some of the most significant musicians to me over the last 40 years, and I've seen so many concerts that I can't even count them. During the years, up until about fifteen years ago, I collaborated in organizing some showcases of improvised music. All of this, of course, means nothing to me except that I generally talk about things I know, in addition to the fact that I'm fully aware of the limits of my tastes—sometimes horrible and indefensible—and I couldn't care less. Just like I couldn't care less about the opinion of any random person, while not compromising on the tone with which it’s expressed. Because outside of here, a tone like that would have cost him at least a couple of teeth. - 2) The newspapers I'm referring to are the magazines, both print and online, that excellently condense an adolescent approach to music, filled with low-level intellectualism and literary cravings, fandom, a tendency towards hyperbole, and a desire to establish an image of oneself, an identity, through the supposed exclusivity or peculiarity of one's listens (a mechanism very functional to the music industry, by the way, at every level, including what's called independent). This adolescent approach is not, of course, exclusive to adolescents, but I've noticed, with increasing astonishment, that it also exists among my peers. - 3) And, here, I’m linking back to your pathetic posts where you used "old age" as an insult, I’m 50 and I don’t hate anyone, let alone an uncertain and non-existent category. However, I do engage in disdain (and I try to behave accordingly) and, even in this case, I am not influenced by age-related factors. - 4) The collection you find on my profile consists almost exclusively of titles present on DeBaser, and not even all of them, just those I felt like clicking "add to your collection." I have, between vinyl and CDs, quite a few more records and a few thousand in mp3 format. I fear your deductions are based on criteria that are not too reliable. But, again, it doesn't count for anything: despite listening to music for at least 35 years and having my highly debatable opinions, I would never allow myself to do what you did, namely use that disdainful tone with someone who declares tastes different from mine. - 5) You could have written anything about Gautier; they're opinions. You wouldn't have offended any Majesty. You can understand how much I wouldn’t have cared. You have your opinion, like everyone else. But I realize it's impossible for you to understand this, given your reaction when I expressed my opinion on this album. That's why I don't consider this post a part of a dialogue, but exclusively as a response to your statements concerning me. And of course, I have no interest regarding your preferences in the folk realm. - Well, I think everything is clear. Regards.
