I hadn't seen this one. Now I'll find it. Fest, you made me think of the album by Thee Hypnotics, which I liked a lot when it came out and then, who knows why, I sold the vinyl... damn it, I'm looking for that too.

Yes, but the biggest expectation is in the stands. And you know I'll suffer regardless, in that black-and-white curve. I do it for love, don’t make me beg, come on…

Well done, Dante. I hadn't seen this one, and since today a little page appeared on the latest by M.F., I remembered this, which is the album with which I got to know Merritt back then and which remains the most "on point" for me. So much so that I’m almost tempted to give it a 5, despite my caution. Cheers.

Errata corrige: there are actually 3 pages with the highest scores! Well, good Stephen has hit the jackpot, with the distortion pedal. Old fox :))

Well, the album is a conceptual operation with good results and it garners much appreciation (I see that another enthusiastic page gives it a 5) probably due to a limited knowledge of Merritt's work over time. Knowing the intent behind it, this was exactly the album I expected, and I would give it a 4, as Saputello does, fully endorsing his post. I believe it is, rather, the very nature of Merritt's approach to pop that deserves a 5, as this is his greatest contribution to the suffocating world of pop tunes. But the range of references he draws from and subjects to his treatments is very broad; this "shoegaze" aspect is just one example. Nice, pleasant, and with some of his little genius touches. I remain fond of the album that revealed it to me, "Charm of the highway strip."

Well, you know, dear John, the world is the realm of subjectivism, so everyone can express "the infinite beauties that a similar record evokes": what matters is the willingness to listen, the ability to intrigue and to be intrigued. As for the little game of ratings, which for me is always secondary to the content of the page, I refer you to comments 9 and 15, where in some way I try to "explain" how I use them. To grant the maximum rating, I need more factors, probably because after about 35 years of rather heterogeneous listening, I'd say, a bit of the "youthful" enthusiasm has faded. And this nice little disc doesn't quite deserve it, 5 stars, in my opinion. It sits nicely between a 3 and a 4. I recommend, of course, listening to the other records by the young man, who has a consistently high-quality output. Bai bai.

@Kosmo: that "69 is still there to digest everything" leaves room for more than one misunderstanding:)) - Yes, I know, I'm an old pig, but what can you do, it's in my nature (you know that of the scorpion, which is also in an O. Welles movie, right?)
