Mauro Pelosi La stagione per morire
Voto:
"The season to die is spring, you can see its fruits, the flowers, the most beautiful thing... and for four flowers it seems worth getting up every day, looking in the mirror, realizing that you’re just a reflection, realizing that you’re just a reflection..." This stuff has stuck somewhere in my brain since the first time I heard it, back in the Jurassic, I believe. It was spinning on the turntable of a young lady with depressive tendencies, around the mid-'70s, more or less. Perfect material for existential/adolescent crises. Embarrassing, almost ridiculous when I think back on it, but deep down I also feel a bit of tenderness for such a shameless display of "pain." And yes, Mariottide comes to mind... But how the hell does Mauro Pelosi come into this? DeBaser still manages to surprise me sometimes.

I didn't think Viny Reilly was on DeB. I have this record, and some of his others, on vinyl. Perhaps I liked Circuses and Bread more, but I'm fond of this one and the cover. Hi, Fosca.

Oh my God, but then it's too amazing! Anyway, everyone says this little page is beautiful, but I'm seeing too many 4s, even some 3s. What more does it need to do, huh? It deserves a 5 here, it really does. A 5. But if it’s not amazing, I’m coming back and I'll make a black hole.

How could I have not known anything until today about Philippe Auclair, aka Louis Philippe? How did I manage with so many other things, but luckily there's DeB and luckily there's Socrates. Thanks for the tip, doctor, it comes just right for my current mood. Everything alright? - @ Fosca: I trust not only Socrates but also Imasoulman blindly: Yuri has floated into your DePosta...

@Blech: Yes, that Cortazar, THE CORTAZAR. The Game of the World is a great book, enjoy your reading. - But yes, sooner or later…

@ BLECHTROMMEL: when will we finally be able to meet and you’ll give me back the shoes, I’ll lend you this - The author "arrived" at jazz late, I believe around 30 years old, and perhaps this is an element that positively influenced the operation he chose to undertake. The book is pleasant, in some parts even excellent. When it came out, I spoke with the Italian publisher of the book, and I took the liberty of calling it pandering: the young but well-prepared (and very honest) publisher (sadly passed away) smiled and said that he understood the meaning of the term. It remains a good effort, which has the notable merit of bringing jazz and its icons closer, with an engaging style, even to those who are almost physiologically distant from it. It deserves a 3.5. I then read other things by Dyer, but he never really convinced me... - For those who might be interested, I would recommend an older book by a great writer, who constructs the figure of the protagonist "inspired" by Bird: it is "Il persecutore" by J. Cortazar, from '59, I believe, and then for a long time hard to find, but I think now again available from Einaudi, € 9.50.
