mmm. Curious, I was just talking about The Wild Bunch the other night with someone :): and indeed I am brutally in favor of Peckinpah's grand massacres (by the way: does The Wild Bunch remind you, as it does me, of Ran in the bloodbaths? Just a curiosity). Back to the point, I believe there’s a great atmosphere here but for me it’s slightly inferior; I enjoy this one, but that one is carved into my brain, perhaps because it’s much faster. But I imagine that at these levels, one can also apply de gustibus, you’re right, they are two great albums. By the way, speaking of atmosphere: cool drink of water is one of the greatest blues I have ever heard.

photek, I just got it recently, on the advice of our Zion :) I haven't listened to it yet, I've only heard a few random tracks... I'm browsing a bit, the 4heroes seem quite intriguing, yes yes. Can I easily find them in p2p or should I go through the hassle and just buy them? Wow, you're a super specialist in jungle electronica and drum'n'bass Zion, and it seems like good Odra knows his stuff too... I'm still a beginner in this field... thanks for the tips. Reviews are obviously much appreciated :)

Yes, but it's... a bit difficult to explain: the first albums are purely drum'n'bass, but there's a lot of jazz and avant-garde: if you like Zorn, you might enjoy them since they often collaborate with Tim Berne (who is the other genius on sax, much more virtuosic but equally crazy), Kenny Wheeler and people like that (I think there's even one from Spacemen 3). If you want drum'n'bass, Disappeared is a must: they are somewhat the opposite of Pusher, who is very "square"; they have a wilder sound, and they are also psychedelic if you get the beautiful live album, or Amassed, but there's zero d'n'b there :)

I've already told you that I'm into it :) Uhm, have you ever heard of Spring Heel Jack? Nobody here pays them any attention, and they deserve a lot more: but the drum and bass gets to disappeared, then it changes a bit...

Jeffrey Lee: one of my heroes, I take him completely with the drug, the sweat, and the dirt. Calling the Gun Club punk doesn’t make much sense: there’s punk, there’s country, but if Tom Waits is for me the defining composer of blues, Jeffrey Lee is perfectly its spirit, Jeffrey Lee is the blues, the most ancestral kind, absolutely. Enk on the spirit of the Gun, we’re on the same wavelength, listening to them makes my throat dry, I see deserts, cacti, swamps, and voodoo rites. I find him immense as a singer too, he has a very original style. I share with Kosmo the passion for Sleeping in a Blood City, one of my favorites. For Zigghio: for me, the masterpiece is the first one; here, the absolute peaks of Fire of Love are missing: She's like heroin, ghost on the highway, cool drink of water but above all that supreme track which is For the Love of Ivy.

Yes, Lolli is very sad indeed. I only have Aspettando Godot and that album is already quite somber. Any advice on what else of his I should listen to? What’s the saddest album and song of Lolli that you know, Odra, since we’re on the topic? I had never even heard of Pelosi... I went to look him up and found the lyrics; it seems interesting. Of course, I don’t know if I’ll manage not to kill myself if you tell me that "canzone per piero," "canzone della triste rinuncia," and "canzone della vita quotidiana" are cheerful by comparison. Do you remember the ending of Canzone Per Piero? "I always say I don’t want to understand, but it’s like a subtle vice and the more I think/ the more I find myself in this immense emptiness, and as a remedy I can only sleep./ And then every day I wake up again, and I remain incredulous, I wouldn’t want to get up/ but I’m still alive and I’m there waiting for myself/ my questions, my nothing, my pain..."

ah.:) but there was something in G minor for cello, I'm sure of it. I would hum it for you, but I doubt my humming could do it justice. Anyway, speaking of thin, I apologize for that old dig I made about Jarman; I thank you for the delicacy of not pointing it out to me... I had said the shooting was his... I make a public amends. Yes, we understood each other perfectly, that's obvious. Anyway, I didn't mention Schulze and Hassell as new age musicians, but as inspirations for certain musicians (one among them, the great Steve Roach). Hassell is phenomenal and is one of my cornerstones; I'm betting you know him too, you rascal. Just kidding :)

Yes, anyway there’s new age and NEW AGE, you know. Einaudi is new age, while Jones or Darling are NEW AGE. And there are absolute geniuses even beyond these two. It’s a genre that's often underrated, due to the many crazy people associated with it. However, it must be said that crazy people are found in pretty much every genre (shall we talk about jazz on this subject?), but when viewed for what it is, just a splash of color, in new age it becomes something that seems more important than the music itself. The fact that there are a lot of obsessed mystics and anachronistic hippies doesn’t take away from the existence of great musicians (and if you love Schulze, you’ll definitely find people like Hassell interesting). Definitions can be a nasty beast.

Knowing is a big word :) I heard it once and liked it, but um, I was missing blank CDs; now I’m definitely going to get it, just like these suites (but is that famous one in G minor among them or am I saying terrifying nonsense?)... I wanted to poke you a bit because when we talked about new age piano, you wrinkled your nose. I brought up Michael Jones, with whom darling has played often: let’s say that mine is more of a suggestion then, for you, who I believe might appreciate it :)
