To tell the truth, I really like a lot of bands that break through. I haven't heard the album, but I find the single really bad and pointless (there are those who go much harder, I'm more moderate).

"One could say a lot about Faust, one could even dismantle these early albums a little bit." Why?

@fripp: Phish is an unusual prog band; they are primarily a jam band, and their natural habitat is live improvisation (many consider them the heirs of Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers). Aside from their repertoire, which they stretch into incredibly long concerts (they are in the Guinness World Records for the longest concert and for the largest audience in the '90s, over a million people if I remember correctly), they often perform albums like Selling England by the Pound or Dark Side in their entirety, as well as records by Talking Heads and many other bands. Moreover, their concerts can be downloaded for free by their choice, so there is an impressive amount of live material available. In the studio, they are calmer, resembling a more elegant version of Frank Zappa, and like him, they throw in a bit of everything, from bluegrass to funk to jazz. Guitarist Trey Anastasio, in some ways, reminds one of Santana, but he is definitely much more versatile. In their recent albums, they've mellowed quite a bit, leaning more towards songwriting, while the earlier ones are more about the suite.

But has it been republished again? Because I really can't deal with these damn pigeons. Terrible review, but were you forced?

when it’s on and I can, yes, usually it’s not on debaser :) Venditti has always annoyed me too, but some songs like "mio padre ha un buco in gola" aren’t bad at all. If you get the chance, give it a listen :)

lol, you're out of luck, he’s the only one I know very little about. I vaguely remember "Signora Aquilone" and "Dolce Signora che Bruci," but honestly, I couldn’t give you a serious judgment. I know him little because for years I only listened to a couple of really bad Venditti albums (not to mention the dreadful collaboration with De Gregori on the song they reconciled with), so I couldn’t care less about hearing an album with him in it. Then I found out that even Venditti made some nice stuff in the beginning, and I got my hands on it, but I haven’t listened to it properly yet...

oh well, on those you have my full agreement. They’re not ugly, but they’re nothing special either. That’s absolutely true, De Gregori has really declined over the years. He’s never been terrible, but compared to the early 70s there’s no comparison. Yes, that’s true.

Well, precisely tastes, those verses you call banal are, in my opinion, especially in the early albums, perhaps the most refined ever written in Italy (but how can you mention "buonanotte fratello" and then say they are banal verses?). The funny thing is that for years I dismissed De Gregori, considering him a minor artist (with the same reasons you give!) compared to Guccini and De André, and here on Debaser, I've often found myself "defending" him.

Great goodnight brother, one of my favorite songs by De Gregori. But also La casa di Hilde, 1940, Le strade di lei, Suonatori di flauto, Finestre di dolore, Informazioni di Vincent, Bene, Giorno di pioggia, Il signor Hood... the important thing is that you don't miss it. I don’t mind Tutti morimmo a stento (and Ballata degli impiccati is the one I like the most) only that in the long run that somewhat pathetic tone (pathos, don’t think otherwise) bothers me. The case of Cantico dei drogati is the perfect example in this sense, a song that I initially loved and that now would make me nauseous. In the end, it's a matter of taste, many people love it a lot, I was initially dazzled but over time it bored me, and I prefer more "balanced" things. Then to say I was never crazy about La buona novella while among others I have always had a soft spot for Volume 8 (not by chance De Gregori's hand is perfectly audible) which, on the other hand, is little regarded.

and who prevents you from thinking it! For me, not even as an idea. Anyway, listen to the first De Gregori, you don’t know what you’re missing.
