Popol Vuh Hosianna Mantra

A crucià, you're still claiming victims. And come on with this mantra............ Just kidding, but it's really nice that someone still catches the magic of Fricke's most beautiful things. I'm truly pleased. Too bad he's no longer with us. But you, Dante, are still here.

Well, I've read a lot about the watershed by now. If it weren't called that, it would probably just be a regular "uninterrupted flow of waters...". Instead, something seems to have changed. And it's a new attitude or inclination. That everyone liked it is clearly not the case; otherwise, we wouldn't be here discussing it. That it is definitive, probably not either. I would tend to believe that the group is trying to migrate after so many years, and consciously, to boot (as is often natural in evolution). And the lineup change is probably functional to that intention. However, in these cases, things don't always go wonderfully from the start. Some things need to be tested over time... and with new companions on this journey. I have already expressed a favorable opinion in another review of this work, but I understand the disappointment of many Opeth fans. That of apocalypse is clearly well justified, and the arguments are not lacking, so kudos to him. The fact remains, however, that when tested against taste, (as usual) opinions can diverge, and that's how it should be. Time will tell us what the Akerfeldt group will be capable of.

I completely agree with mj64. Just yesterday, I played the record for my 14-year-old son. He had listened to ITCOCK a week ago with unsuspected interest. I played him this one, and for part of the afternoon in the car, he drank in "Pictures Of A City," "Cadence....," and "ITWOP." Then, late in the evening, when "Devil's Triangle" started, his concentration was at its peak. He came out saying that after Porcupine Tree and Opeth, Crimso was his third favorite band. (.....). Listening to it again, indeed, the emotions after more than 35 years have not changed much for me. And I can only rejoice in this. Also that my son, and thus a new generation, can enjoy these milestones. Special credit to Peter Sinfield: my favorite visionary poet of the last century in the Crimson planet. He was indeed a prophet.

I read with true interest what Bisius declared regarding this work and generally about the group's activities, past and future. As an "older" listener, I find there is much truth in what I have read, even though I do not share the impressions and judgments. But this is subject to tastes, as we all know... However, Bisius has a very aware and respectful way of analyzing the available elements, along with a sufficient spontaneity and passion to be credible and authentic, and that is what matters, in my opinion. Personally, as an "old" fan of the group, I continue to listen to "Watershed," finding it every time a versatile work, open to further expansions of scenario and a mature piece, without taking anything away from the extraordinary "Blackwater Park," "Deliverance," or "Still Life." Two sides of the same coin that, in perspective, have become more marked, disappointing this or that faction of fans who want more or less prog or more or less growl or more or less whatever they desire... It often happens that one or more artists, according to a typically dynamic concept, during a certain period feel or want (or calculate) that a turning point or adjustment, a modification, a shift in one direction or another (see Porcupine Tree)... Then the audience decrees its value or not, applauding, marveling, or showing a thumbs down. It is known, this is the nature of these things.

I had the opportunity to listen to their work and let me say that Akerfeldt and the band have probably created one of their most beautiful pieces. It’s a shame about Lindgren’s departure (a gifted and precise guitarist), but their journey of balancing and restructuring the metal equilibrium is showing its full maturity. Opening a metal album with a crystal-clear acoustic piece is no small feat, and the progressive elements blend beautifully with the rest. Let’s hope this happy moment continues.....

I have known the band for years thanks to the "good offices" of Steven Wilson. I suppose that the frequent shifts from death to prog are largely due to this and, frankly, on a personal level, I don't mind them at all. I consider "Damnation" one of their more intense and versatile works, while I believe that "Blackwater Park" has, at times, a devastating metal energy. Two sides of the same coin, I think. I thank TheDanceofEternity for the sufficient (and slightly ungrammatical, but that doesn’t matter) review and enthusiasm, as well as for letting me know about this upcoming release.

I appreciated, and even with a smile, the last post from the unknown person who unfortunately did not sign their name. It is VERY beautiful that the tradition of lullabies started (started?) with his mother continues for the incoming little one. The values expressed are also spontaneous and straightforward. Needless to say, I largely agree, especially for Zappa..... Let us know who you are!

@popopo: too kind. But you certainly don't need a master like me. You've surpassed me ages ago.
