Cassandra Wilson Blue Light 'Til Dawn

I had the fortune of seeing Wilson live that year, and the memory is one of those unforgettable ones. I notice that you have praise for the extraordinary performances of Brandon Ross, and I agree with you, as well as with the overall quality of your critique. A little less so with the final judgement, which is more... rounded. Cheers.:D

Re: Salmacis: I would like, in a low voice, to express the opinion that seriously comparing Steve Howe to Steven Wilson is pointless and nonsensical due to their origins, style, technique, direction, and expressive meaning. I can listen to both, attributing high values to them, just as I can enjoy grana padano and formaggio di fossa for the same reasons, even though the two foods share similar basic characteristics. In my opinion, it's absurd to create these kinds of rankings, and it is misleading and/or distracting from the central issues that Filippo has sought to address and discuss, albeit controversially.

Don't pay him any mind, Dante... The namesake of Siffredi has to show how macho he is, splashing around all day among peas and little onions while listening to "erotic" tunes; then, by chance, he also turned out to be a reader of reviews and a bothersome presence for peaceful folks, who at least have the decency to get laid without parading it around for everyone to see, and he didn't seem to believe his "superior wisdom". But you... Dante, who is miles ahead, shouldn't even consider him. At most, have a chuckle and give him the middle finger... Anyway, nice little story about Geppetto: I don't know, though, if the friend Rokko will be able to "Regere" it. :D

Of course...... 1500 plus observations, visits, interventions on this work.... Who would have ever suspected it, Lewis? Isn't it about time someone told old Alan? He could afford a nice retirement, get back "on the road," and maybe return to the stage and continue with a quadrilogy... (like "Fire," "Water," and "Earth"....). In the meantime, he could work on a "Censer 2"; I believe the village could have repopulated by now, right? Cheers :-)

For those interested: after checking online, I discovered that "Waves", as a standalone CD, was never released. There is still a decent second-hand vinyl market where it's not difficult to find the work at affordable prices. Currently, it seems that the only way to listen to it digitally is to purchase "The Island Years - Jade Warrior Elements", a double box set that indeed includes the 4 works released between '74 and '79 for the English label. ("Floating World", "Waves", "Kites", "Way Of The Sun"). I should also mention that the price is particularly high, as it is currently out of print. Check Amazon.com for an idea. Bye, guys. PS: I take this opportunity to correct an unforgivable mistake: Duhig's name was Tony (like me) and NOT John. My huge fault, I apologize. re-bye.

How beautiful.... a review written with the memory of the emotions evoked by this music and without silly shyness for the movements of the heart.... After the topographical oceans, shine, I find you again with the hedgehog and I reaffirm my appreciation for your musical choices and for your genuine and direct way of arguing. However, despite the highly respectable opinion of Jam, I wouldn't count "stupid dream" among my favorites of the band. Although undeniably unforgettable episodes like "Tinto Brass" or "Even Less" are present. I refer you (in case you haven’t already done so) to the nice review of "Signify" by Filippo Guzzardi. I also expressed two or three ideas there. Until next time. Bye :-)

I believe I have read the review of this album with sufficient attention because it deserves it. The Wilson group deserves it, and so does the acute precision with which Filippo has examined the work. Perhaps expanding to a more general issue (the meaning and significance of progressive music and its potential distortions) could warrant, or perhaps deserves, a chapter of its own; it may have hindered the brevity of the overall critical perspective on the work and made it slightly challenging in terms of length. Let’s be clear, Filippo, I am among those who, as a longtime fan of the group, considers "Signify" one of their expressive peaks, but I find it slightly risky to tackle, at least in this context, the creative/technical/motivational implications (which are, moreover, legitimate) likely inherent to this artistic system and/or choice. What I mean is that it’s easy to generate a hornet's nest of viewpoints (all "respectable") on a topic that, by its nature and not only here, lends itself to being interpreted in multiple ways and directions. Personally, I can say that I consider Wilson a musically formidable personality, guitaristically/technically not outstanding (even after two live checks, and please note I am a 46-year-old guitarist); compositionally extraordinary in his eclecticism and with a band that reacts elastically and creatively (especially the great Barbieri) in a manner functional to the ebb and flow of his eccentric projects. I also believe that from "In Absentia" onwards, a new period has opened up that, to be honest, I don't dislike but doesn't fully convince me, or at least is not as highly satisfying as in "Sky Moves....," "Coma Divine," or "Lightbulb Sun." "Signify" represents a progressive interpretation with strong psychedelic connotations that (go figure why) particularly struck my imagination and fantasy; one of my essential records. Thank you for highlighting it here. Best regards.

ah ah ah. At least I laughed a little. With some well-timed nonsense, it’s sometimes easier. Too bad about the anonymous comment. I would have liked to thank you more directly...

Hi, Gianni, thank you. I recently "discovered" "Spirit Of Eden" and "Laughing Stock"; two priceless gems. I would have never suspected it. With a prayer for dissemination......
