What you’re saying would make sense if it weren’t for the fact that the aforementioned disciples of Vasco are making him out to be the last of the enlightened! That said, he has a big problem common to many others: HE CAN’T WRITE A SONG EVEN BY COPYING IT! As far as I’m concerned, there are beautiful (old) songs credited to him, but the point is: who should get the credit? The one who wrote them, not him (coincidentally, he has always used excellent musicians and session players)! Another point: he can also write good lyrics, but often he gets lost in the fair of Italian clichés (the one where Ligabue wallows like a pig in its own muck)!
Finally, the album: I think it’s terrible, he (or whoever for him) has no more ideas, maybe it’s a little better than that endless garbage that was Buoni o cattivi (which really made me want to throw up), but it doesn’t stray too far from it! but it’s not that I don’t like them...sorry if I’m being picky but it’s not even written! For sure, they deserve respect for their attitude and quality and they would deserve much greater success...their songs always leave me with a sense of incompleteness, I believe anyone who knows them well can understand me! But there’s a big difference between that and despising them or remaining indifferent...

For me, it’s worth much more than Downward Spiral, Surfer Rosa, and many other albums considered masterpieces! Here, the only pop element is the appeal brought by catchiness, but there are infinite high-level compositional ideas. Take for example All My Little Words: a simple yet beautiful banjo melody gives a country-folk flavor to the whole piece, contrasted by a few notes of double bass that add a darker and less "positive" feel to the song! There are many more, and despite some dips (69 is a lot), the album is massive!
