Okay, your final verdict finds me in agreement!

Come on, the vortex, it's certainly not the first time that a band has two souls, one electric and one acoustic... that AIC were (for me) unique in both is another matter... related to the dual vocals, to Cantrell's guitar taste and Kinney's drumming! Cool?

Vortex, not to repeat myself, but for me the AIC are above (at most on par) with everyone else; I wouldn't even put myself in the same category. ;)
However, it doesn't seem hard to identify the stylistic canons of the AIC... I've always believed little in the grunge story; Pearl Jam are to Neil Young what Soundgarden are to Zeppelin and Sabbath, and Nirvana are to the Pixies! I've never found much in common musically!

I used the word originality; actually, I should have used variety (stylistic)...mea culpa...although quite often they go hand in hand!

Vortex, I don’t think it’s heresy if we light it up... Originality was certainly not the main quality of Nirvana... by the way, I’ve never liked them! Anyway, I didn’t mean to say that originality is synonymous with good music... between AIC and STP, I always choose AIC! Among almost everyone and AIC, I still choose AIC! But they weren’t original!

I also don't see why they would be superior melodically... the differences are very evident, also because there aren't really any significant similarities... banal, no, the STP can be anything but banal because, apart from Soundgarden, they were the ones offering the most varied ideas... from that perspective, AIC (for which, I repeat, I have an immense admiration) were much less original! When have they ever played a jazz-blues piece with a dobro, using the slide?!

Roof tries to listen to them well, I wouldn’t really call them banal, just listen to Big Empty! Don, I really missed this... Usually I heard them say "what the hell is this shit?" and a minute later they were headbanging!!!

Already Don, instead here they see us the PJ... well... I still prefer this... the melodies and the ideas of Big Empty, vaseline, and Kitchen to me remain unique!

Look, I’m a huge fan of AIC (and Soundgarden) too, and I really like PJ as well... I don’t think they are better melodically or technically; they are just (much) more varied! speedsound if in kitchenware you hear something from jar of flies, you better get your hearing checked... Come on, explain to me what you hear, at a compositional level, so I can have a good laugh... no, sorry, I’m not a fan of anyone in particular... if you can’t appreciate what’s good in purple, that’s your problem...

Massy, I don't think they are melodically superior to AIC; what STP knew how to do (and others didn't) was to weave in endless influences from genres like country, folk, blues, even jazz...
