Is Reznor’s state of desperate toxicity really that obvious? Did you go to dinner with him? And the other one, no? The other one didn’t attempt suicide without waving around the bullshit of toxicity?

In short, the judgment on PHM is rather ungracious, not to mention a bit presumptuous, and also somewhat out of place given that the two groups have similarities but many points of divergence!

his path towards suicide? Come on, are you kidding? Come on, Lux, for goodness' sake, Reznor's nonsense... look, I get what you meant, but honestly, Reznor's lyrics are garbage, only a few are worth saving (and those few are indeed remarkable, it's not like he’s a newcomer, let’s be clear)... The industrial zenith? For my whole life, I don't do rankings but remembering Psalm 69 by Ministry would be a good thing... Of course, DM has more melody, but treating them like just pop songs is nonsense... they can also be disturbing, try listening to Songs of Faith and Devotion and the atmospheres they create... NO, you're greatly underestimating them... Of course, NIN for life over many other bands, but the fact remains, as I already said, that they are what they are because of their sounds, and yes, also for some of their melodies (melody doesn’t necessarily mean minor key... otherwise, jazz wouldn’t have melody, you see what I mean?!)!

eh????!
Mr. Self-Destruction, what is that? God is dead and no one cares, what is that? How much do lyrics actually matter in rock? Huh? If you want, I can start listing all the bands and acts with better lyrics than NIN... as far as I'm concerned, lyrics always come AFTER the music, but a good lyric always adds an extra point of merit (See Tool, AIC, Soundgarden, Cash, Dylan, etc.)!!! Does music legitimize and elevate the lyrics? THEN THE (elementary school) LYRICS of Judas Priest are masterpieces... sorry, but I think you're way off base... anyway, de gustibus!

Perhaps I phrased the question wrong... For what (obscure) reason is PHM superior to any Depeche Mode album? In the lyrics (and that’s where I start laughing immediately)... in the melodies (I keep laughing) or at most in the sounds (as Caz used to say... and here maybe I don’t laugh)? Or is it because he delivered the performance perfectly while the other idiot from DM was really attempting suicide while minding his own business (it’s not a merit to try suicide; it’s a demerit to give off that cursed Sunday fool vibe...)?

But above all, is there still anyone under 16 who believes that Reznor is a great lyricist? Just a note: the lyrics of The Downward Spiral are embarrassing for how childish they are... not a single one is worth saving... I’m not saying he has never written good lyrics (those of Hurt are beautiful, even if a bit self-serving), but certainly not that often... listening to NIN for the lyrics is like listening to Johnny Cash for the guitar solos, or watching TG4 to hear something objective!

Superior to any Depeche Mode work? Oh really?! And what do you know about Depeche Mode, Lux? It's a question, there's no hint of irony!

Listening to Bowie and Vaughan together is always worth the listen...even just for those two!
SRV is not a "great" blues guitarist, sorry but that’s just nonsense...
