@bartle: Yes, I had heard about that too; a friend of mine wrote his thesis on it... he told me that the right, in an attempt to give itself a literary tone, adopted it as a manifesto, but in reality Tolkien (according to him and various other scholars) hid a harsh critique of totalitarian regimes behind the story... honestly, I should reread it, but I have no intention of doing so! :)

"the best book of the millennium": sure, why not, and Channel Anal is the best movie in the history of cinema... I'll never understand how an adult can enjoy reading about elves, Hobbits, dragons, sword-fighting, fairies, little monsters with dyslexia issues, and various absurdities... but maybe I’m the one being biased! But the book, which is also a massive tome of biblical boredom (for me), doesn’t it hide an anti-totalitarian message between its pages??!
