Colossal bullshit..! In music.. it’s GREAT who manages to confirm and reaffirm themselves even in the future.. and, if possible, to IMPROVE..! Something that U2 are not doing..! On the contrary.. they too (just like, for example, QUEEN in the '80s..) are experiencing a rapid decline.. towards increasingly monotonous and boring albums..! If musicians were to think simply about resting on their laurels as you practically said.. well.. you know that’s boring..! I have a question... it's not a provocation... really... it's just simple curiosity: can someone who is smart enough explain to me why the hell U2, after 25 long and tough years of their career, having become the most famous band on the planet, with an endless list of fans, selling millions and millions of copies worldwide, in short... having the world in the palm of their hand... can someone explain to me why they still don't have the COURAGE to release anything different as a RADIO SINGLE from simple CHART POP like SPANDAU BALLET?? I mean... damn... after so many years, especially now that they have the world at their feet... why don't they decide to release something truly experimental or at least something that differs from the usual POP songs they keep pushing, made up of boring verses and choruses that stick in your head like those of the worst SPANDAU BALLET?? Damn... I think for a moment and I come up with: STARING AT THE SUN, SWEETEST THING, BEAUTIFUL DAY, WALK ON, STUCK IN A MOMENT, VERTIGO, ELECTRICAL STORM, CITY OF BLINDING LIGHTS... etc... etc..! But come on... aren't they the most famous and important band on the planet???

I find that this is the true and only milestone of the discography of DURAN DURAN!
It’s true… RIO was important too, but… RIO has too many summer hits… and easy-listening tracks…!
On the other hand… in this splendid album… there's the essence of NEW WAVE, there's the essence of DECADENCE..! In short… nothing to envy even the bravest of that era (Japan and the like…)! TO THE SHORE, FRIENDS OF MINE, SOUND OF THUNDER, PLANET EARTH, and ANYONE OUT THERE are unique and extraordinary SINTH-POP tracks!!! Comparable to very few others!!

CLAUDIO..giving a 5 to THE WORKS..is an abominable thing!!! Don't get me wrong! The QUEEN, as you can see from my nickname, are my favorite band..! They are my first band! I am also a moderator of the most important Italian forum about QUEEN..so..I adore them! However..I try to be objective and seek to be OBJECTIVE..! And frankly..if you give a 5 to THE WORKS..then you should give 20 to 70% of the albums released in the last 50 years!!! THE WORKS is a nice album..without too many pretensions..! It's an album filled with very simple CHART POP..because that's what RADIO GA GA or I WANT TO BREAK FREE is all about..! Just simple POP!
The greatest virtue of THE WORKS is the fact that it might be the MOST COMPLETE album of QUEEN as every song is different from the other and is of a different genre: we go from the old-school ROCK of HAMMER TO FALL (which I personally HATE..) to the stadium anthem of RADIO GA GA (which I personally..HATE..), passing through the nod to ELVIS with MAN ON THE PROWL, and then the (EXTRAORDINARY..) experimentation with MACHINES OR BACK TO HUMANS, then the ironic and cheerful song I WANT TO BREAK FREE, then a melodic piece that gets stuck in your head like KEEP PASSING..etc..etc..etc..! In short..a complete album but..to give it the highest rating..that's another story!!!

It would be great if someone tried to review something by the legendary PET SHOP!!!! In my opinion, one of the most influential bands of the '80s music scene (and beyond..)! Truly geniuses!!!

I appreciate your sincerity and your genuineness! You admitted that you don't like QUEEN, but still... you can appreciate some of their work, and that honors you! Unlike certain jerks who hate a band outright and spout nonsense without knowing anything about it! And especially without ever having listened carefully!
As for your tastes... well, I also agree with you: it's my favorite album, SHEER HEART ATTACK!! STONE COLD CRAZY is one of the very first heavy tracks...!!!! NOW I'M HERE is the quintessential symbol of '70s ROCK! And then... well, there's also the rest!

Mythical NICK!!! Indeed..there are really few albums worse than these this year! If it weren't mainly for the anticipation and the stature of the name U2! Okay..fans might say that the album is beautiful (all subjective..), that it moves them (still all subjective..), etc..etc..! But..from the name "U2", from a name that has 25 years (glorious or not..) behind it..well..one could really expect more than just simple chart-topping POP songs..like almost all those on ATOMIC BOMB..! Alright..a greeting!

Regarding the latest U2 albums, we completely agree since... the last 3-4 are truly inferior COMPARED TO THE OLD ALBUMS! I find they lack creativity too much now! Regarding your points: 1) QUEEN made their fair share of mistakes!! But still... they invented something... and in terms of creativity, they were definitely superior in my opinion (theirs, for example, is not simple POP disguised as simple ROCK..! They did something different too... always IN MY OPINION..)! 2) Totally agree!! ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND is awful... but on the other hand, I love albums like BOY, OCTOBER, UNFORGETTABLE FIRE, ACHTUNG BABY (the last great masterpiece...), etc..! 3) Why? Because I had the chance to go there..! And since, as I told you before, I consider myself an open-minded person... and without blinders.. and especially a music lover in general.. I was curious to see them live.. to get a more complete overview of the band!! I already had some live videos but, as you know well, live is a whole other thing..!

Why do you care if a loser like me criticizes U2??? U2 is the most commercially successful active band! They're the most successful band of the last 10-12 years..! All the newspapers speak well of them! All the media speak well of them! They're full of fans! Especially in ITALY!! Do I annoy you so much if I go against the grain??
