Crystalium De Aeternitate Commando

Treanquillo Tepes, perhaps I expressed myself poorly: in the album, the Heraclitean polemos is exalted as a destructive moment in which man realizes his fundamentally animal nature. War, the tension between opposites, is the primary engine of the world, without which it would stagnate, devoid of movement. It is no coincidence, however, that I wrote that they choose an aristocratic path to celebrate these ideas. The Crystalium do not glorify the war that we see in the news, like many other bands, but rather the idea of conflict, in a philosophical sense, which translates into the struggle for self-affirmation, detached from economic, social, religious, or political aims of any kind.

A bit too slow for my tastes, I much prefer Blood Fire Death. The review has nonetheless captured the spirit of the album and especially of Quorthon, whose passing, a few years ago, deprived the extreme scene of a piece of history. I remember when the news of his death came, many underground record labels displayed banners of commemoration on their buildings. I particularly remember one: "Hail Quorthon! See you in Walhalla!"

But here no one has talked about races. The fact that there are physical differences between native people of one place and native people of another is a fact, but no one questions the equality of all people.

Oh, here we go. This is a band that, at least in the past years, has managed to build a musical identity that is out of the ordinary. I followed them closely until the release of the album Love Metal, and then I lost interest, both because I was gradually eliminating all the non-black metal I was still listening to and because, objectively, they no longer seemed worth listening to. Good review, but perhaps it tends a bit too much to classify a type of sound that cannot be labeled and, after all, doesn’t need to be.

For those without seconds to spare: I'm sorry, I'm completely heterosexual and completely taken.

Dear Maurizio, it just so happens that I am from Rome, and if you are active in the NSBM and BM scene, we might even know each other, since I have a group and I am part of it. So, before repeating your invitation, think carefully... let me know first if you can figure out who I am... once you understand, I will be ready to fulfill your desires wherever you want.

Tepes, perhaps I totally misjudged the setting of the review, but at least with the intent, I tried to make it clear that here the atmosphere is NOT at all made of "battles and similar nonsense," nor do the Crystalium partake in cheap satanism. If you are referring to this review in your comment, there are two possibilities: either I can't communicate in writing what I have in my head, or you didn't read my words carefully. Also, regarding the philosophy, I would like to point out that I didn't bring it up in the posts as a dialectical trick, but it is present from the very citation, and every line is infused with it. If you’re referencing other reviews, such as those of Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth, MEA CULPA, but I have the mitigating circumstance of having written them when I was barely more than a kid (it may not seem like it, but I'm an old-timer like any Debaserian... ;-) ), and I believe I have understood and corrected my initial fanaticism and childishness. If only you knew, my old friend, how things would have turned out if we had started this discussion three years ago... hehe... anyway, now, to make me lose my temper takes a bit, though it's not that some people can’t manage it (see the National Socialist comments on the Darkthrone review - A Blaze In The Northern Sky).

Geeno, the very history of art and philosophy responds to your objections! Think of the Futurist movement, "war as the hygiene of the world." I repeat, analyze Heraclitus and his destructive and creative polemos. Nothing, not even the optimism to which you so confidently cling (and this is not an insult), can erase the fact that, ultimately, man is a beast, and that as such he realizes himself solely in the exercise of his animal instinctivity, among which characteristics the so-called will to power prevails, but which is essentially a desire for supremacy. And being man a superior animal, he sublimates this desire for supremacy into an inner engine, into an ancestral will, into a banner of inner feeling, a value indeed, which is hatred. War here is not understood as a clash between two idiots like Bin Laden and Bush, but as an inevitable destructive moment between opposites, which preludes a new precarious balance, in turn a prelude to a new clash. Regarding your insinuation about the commercial nature of this music, know that Crystalium is part of the French black legion, that is, the most underground movement of the European scene (consider that seventy percent of the members of the groups that compose it have a "real" job to support themselves; the others live thanks to secondary activities related to Black Metal), and that it is absolutely not adolescent music: a person cannot possibly come to appreciate and understand a songwriting of this complexity without at least a four or five-year internship in extreme metal. I say this from experience: Darkthrone, Immortal, Mayhem, are one thing... but this...
