THE REVIEW

It was released in 2000, following closely behind the success of the celebrated (and rightfully so) "Razorblade Romance", and it represented the pinnacle of the dark-rock period of the now famous Finns.
Composed of three tracks, two of which are unreleased, this single celebrates Mr. Valo's compositional talent, unique in his ability to incorporate melodramatic elements within a typically hard-rock context. It is precisely the "grace" and romanticism that make their way into these compositions, supported by a powerful guitar crunch and the stunning vocal harmonies of the Helsinki singer.

"Right Here In My Arms", the opening track, proves to be wonderfully easy-listening, immediate, enriched by solid and very melodic riffs. The chorus, quite catchy, quickly sticks in your head and Ville lets his talent flow without ever becoming cloying. Perhaps the song's commercial nature will horrify metal purists, but the quality is such that it renders any criticism insignificant.

The second chapter is truly chilling. "I've Sailed The Oceans Of Wine To Find You" is a ballad where seductive keyboards and acoustic harmonies languish in a vortex of nostalgic emotions. Once again, Valo is spectacular, histrionic, extremely skilled in "theatrically" interpreting the melancholic moods of this track. Graceful.

The closing is left to "Sigillum Diaboli", and what an ending! Hard-metal groove guitars introduce it, releasing unexpected energy. The vocals are stunning, perfect in combining melody and "damnation" with a chorus that leaves you astonished with the beauty-power that exudes from Valo's vocal cords. It ends with a perfectly fitting solo and drumming with remarkable groove and truly "heavy." A real applause to Mr. Gas Lipstick's technique, certainly one of the most interesting drummers around; check out his performances in the Finnish band Kyyria where he showcases enviable skills.

"Right Here In My Arms" is one of the best singles created by the combo and, despite it being not so easily accessible anymore, I highly recommend it. Truly thrilling.
