Discounted Pentagram? Discounted Under The Sign Of Hell? No Tepes, I don't think so...let me tell you this from someone who pretends to understand a bit about black metal. These were releases that profoundly marked the scene, and are still remembered today among the must-have titles alongside De Mysteriis DOM Sathanas, Transilvanian Hunger, and Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. Try listening to Under The Sign Of Hell: a sound like that has never been recreated, and what can we say about Pentagram? Even putting aside the exceptional vocals, gems like Ritual and Crushing The Scepter cannot be labeled as "already heard."

What can I say... I'll have to rectify this review... First of all, it's not accurate to say that Gorgoroth can't play; they're a band that reinterprets true style, focusing more on atmosphere than on technique. Indeed, musically they're not very complex, but few songs in black metal convey the pathos of "Funeral Procession," "Crushing The Scepter," or "The Devil Is Calling." I'm speaking from direct experience: I saw them live in Rome in November 2005 with 1349, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Gaahl's vocal performance was sensational. As for the singer's personal issues, I don't need to comment... only a madman can torture someone for two weeks straight... Anyway, this is a music review. On that front, I'm surprised by Tepes: you've listened to the record only once a year ago at a friend's house, and then you write a review? That's at least a bit unprofessional, my friend... especially since this is a fundamental band for the black scene, and this is definitely not a cd worthy of a 1... it may not be the best, but it definitely deserves a solid 3...

I've always found them too slow... that said, they are a good group. However, I prefer "Malice" to this. Good review, maybe just a bit too sparse.

Maybe In Flames Of Purification I will incense them... so keep your hands down ;-P. And since we’re talking about splits, I'll warn you that soon I’ll post Hail sathanas We’re The Black Legion... let no one dare to anticipate me...

Very good, excellent review... it captures the Craft perfectly. This is definitely their best CD, a step above Total Soul Rape. I found the adjective "darkthronian" particularly fitting for "Ablaze", but I would relate it more to "Transilvanian Hunger" than to "A blaze in the northern sky". I also own their latest album "Fuck The Universe", and while it's not bad, I found it a bit too sparse. What do you think?

Great review, very thorough. Of course, I would have insisted more on the conceptual aspect of the album... after all, Bilskirnir in particular are interesting also from a conceptual point of view... anyway, everyone has their own approach. However, I don’t agree with the rating... certainly, if we analyze it track by track, although the part by Widar deserves full marks, it is clear that the work of Finsterwald is significantly inferior... on the other hand, we must understand that this is an atmospheric album... and therefore should be evaluated as a whole, without focusing too much on production or technical skill. Personally, my rating is a full 4.

In truth, the name of the group brings to mind, or rather is, the original title of Emily Bronte's work, which we know in Italian as "Cime Tempestose"... Anyway, the review is really well done and makes you want to listen to the album. I'm not giving it a 5 due to the lack of reference to the novel ;-P
