Maybe then CILN is a bit too full of dragonflies and packages. I've always preferred the anxiety and restrained feelings of Prendila così, allusive, made of glimpses and frames stolen from a rearview mirror...

... maybe I just don’t really believe in the story of autobiographical inspiration. I’ve never been interested in the discussion about the "sincerity" of B-M's songs, precisely because I’ve never truly perceived them as singer-songwriter material. It’s a topic that seemed to me I had already tackled in some other discussion about Panella.
I see Battisti more as an experimenter of soundscapes: each album a different project where the lyrics serve as "catalysts" for the images. The music, then, is like a kind of soundtrack for hypothetical situations, whether autobiographical or not, doesn’t really matter...

It's true, LBICE has a bit of a vibe like a collection of demos waiting to be refined, but in my opinion, that's exactly where its strength lies, in being almost experimental. I've always been captivated by the "rough" keyboard sound of tracks like Ancora Tu or Io ti venderei; it's almost a fragment of the future within the body of a genre still fully to be defined, just like disco was in the mid-70s. Then (and this is my completely free association and I take full responsibility for it) I've always felt that LBICE, in spirit, is close to Station to Station by Bowie...

With the pink ribbon is a song that I've never found particularly compelling; I’ve always thought of it as an easy, classic ballad, lacking the sparks and inventions typical of Battisti's writing. That slightly overbearing chorus has nothing to do, for example, with the "soundtrack" balance of Prendila così. The fact that CINR has been a victim of radio "bleeding" certainly hasn’t helped.

I've been reevaluating "the battery, the double bass, etc." for a while now: No doctor, Veliero and even Io ti venderei have a freshness that already seemed lost in UDPA. And the pink tape? I can no longer judge it; my poor eardrums start to hurt every time I hear a fragment of it on the radio.

I've always found UDPA less interesting than ITNT, perhaps because the rhythm is a bit less prominent compared to the latter. I think of songs like Aver paura d'innamorarsi troppo or Donna selvaggia donna that, with edgier arrangements, would have been (in my opinion) more interesting. Nessun dolore has never really excited me, while Al cinema and Maledetto gatto feel a bit too much like filler. Of course, UDPA has a greater variety of arrangements compared to ITNT, but I think it has leaned a bit too much in the direction of "international waiting room song."

it's a shame that the subsequent Una donna per amico doesn't stay at the same level. but there’s Prendila Così, absolutely one of the most formidable songs by B-M...

this is absolutely my favorite of Battisti with Mogol. yes, it's true, it's with this album that Battisti starts to systematically experiment with rhythm (anticipation of the almost "vocal" counterpoints of Don Giovanni's drums?) and with the structure of songs that become increasingly unpredictable.

very beautiful album, but in my opinion nothing compared to the previous Only Theatre Of Pain, infinitely more painful and mean.

I've never been crazy about this milestone... there are still too many flutes for my taste... I prefer the granite sound of electronic meditation... or ATEM, which I think is their true masterpiece.
