Baustelle La malavita

At first, I wasn't convinced, but now I've been listening to it nonstop for days. It's beautiful, cultured, a bit schmoozy with the vintage feel and very trendy, but that's fine because among the sounds you hear today, it's one of the best products. The lyrics start with interesting ideas but then fall into the architecture of words, lacking any search for style and relying solely on assonances. So I prefer to hear the meter of "Revolver," which at least plays on the musical effect of the singing. "Revolver" is absolutely the gem of this album, so new in its absolute use of vintage sounds (see Santo & Johnny), and "i provinciali" and "vita bassa" are also nice. I also think it's a pity that he almost always sings alone and only in one occasion together.

Damn, I fell back into it! I started buying CDs again after reading about them on DeB; I had managed to detox from the acute phase of "read and buy," and I was back to just "read and comment" (which is already an addiction!)... and now I’ve added this to the mix. Stop DeB, I want to get off!!!
Keith Jarrett Paris Concert

Do you remember, Hal, when I asked you to come to Rome with me to see Jarrett at the Auditorium? I've always felt that we both missed a great concert!
I find the debate over the Cologne or Paris concert a bit sterile; in my opinion, mullah described it well when he said that listening to the piano in general makes everyone, inevitably, a fan of Jarrett himself, and I would add in its entirety (trio, solo...) and as a fitting conclusion, I borrow the words of primiballi: "provided one wants, like some critics, to divide the Jarrettian adventure into solo and non-solo."

In my opinion, when he told you "you'll see that you'll like it," he was really referring to the girl on the cover, and knowing you, it seems he was absolutely right!
João Gilberto Live at Umbria Jazz

Yeah, to have! Just like "voz e violao" is to have, an extremely intimate album recorded at a lower volume precisely because it needs to seep under your skin slowly... and while these are absolutely to be listened to, it is absolutely essential to be at the Blue Note in Milan on Sunday the 20th for the only Italian date of Celso Fonseca’s four European shows, a modern, fantastic singer of these atmospheres. I’ll probably go, so if anyone wants to join me, let me know; it’s a concert and an artist you can't miss! Finally, a comment on the review, intimate, personal, and diary-like—how nice it is to read on deb.

Josi, tell me you copied this review from a classic book, otherwise I'm going to get angry! The most punctual, precise, and balanced review without frills and misplaced thoughts that I've ever read on this sheet, sublime!
Eels Blinking Lights And Other Revelations

I find this album beautiful, inspired, just the right amount of melancholic, and certainly repetitive, long, and at times boring. I previously wrote an enthusiastic review because I believe that on deb, musical diaries and personal feelings deserve space more than learned dissertations from knowledgeable music enthusiasts, and this album (during those days) stirred deep emotions in me and was the right palette of colors for my days. If someone has followed my emotions, I’m glad, but they were mine. As for the reviews in all the newspapers, well, they have a point! Do the albums by Franz Ferdinand or the one by Block Party seem like absolute masterpieces to you?! The releases from this period are all of mediocre quality, so welcome Mr. Eels, boring, repetitive, but surely a gem in the musical landscape of 2005.
Deicide Serpents Of The Light

"I have a question for you: in art (and therefore in music), is it possible to hate God while simultaneously wanting to fuck Him?" ... a true poet! Martin Luther, Nietzsche, and Deicide, all that's missing is Grandma Duck and a preface on anthropomorphized zoomorphism against Creationist theory to close the perfect "mystical square." But just think about it?!

Back then, this was among the Olympus of my favorite records and was part of the playlist when I was DJing on the radio and in a so-called "alternative" venue. I loved it to pieces, so much so that today I can't listen to it anymore. Certain sounds I can only associate with the vinyl release, they’re too tied to an era and to how the sound used to come out of the speakers at that time. Anyway, this record is in the empyrean of my "precious" dark vinyl collection, perhaps the band I loved the most at the time, alongside the Fuzztones, who weren’t dark but were quite "dark" themselves.
