Scritti Politti Songs To Remember
Voto:
I shared the Politti writings back in the day with a blonde alternative girl (who knows where she’s gone to, or how she’ve settled down or become a supermanager) with a rebellious tuft... I knew about a documentary on the SPs... I wonder if it ever got made... I can’t help but say even more as time goes by.

For this album, just looking at the tracklist makes you realize how complete it is. I completely agree when cece65 talks about "nine stories." Here is all the art of storytelling through songs and great experience in bringing a song to shore after having navigated it offshore. The proposal from The Punisher is very interesting...

Socrates, I hope you remembered at least to pay for the pizza for the kids!!! I saw your list (you took some nice titles right out of my mouth) and I'll look for the ones I don't know. On my end, I could only add a little "anomalous" list...

Socrates, just to avoid waiting too many years (and here I am, stupidly mortal!), I am willing to have a more essential TOP 3.

Dear Hal, I wasn’t convinced by Fresu on trombone either... so I went to dig out the CD from the pile, listened again, and read the booklet and liner notes. Here (on my CD) it seems that Fresu plays his most common instruments: trumpet and flugelhorn. I’d just like to add that the arrangements of the pieces are by Trovesi and Petrin. Who knows, perhaps due to the countless mysteries of CDs (copied, lent, stolen, etc), an imaginary ‘solo’ of Fresu on trombone could have emerged... it makes you want to listen to it at this point... a greeting to Mr. Nobody and his perplexity...

I confess I know nothing about 31Knots. However, given who recommends them and the references to "the joy of shipwrecks" and "police reggae," I will look for them as soon as possible (or I will "borrow" them) so that I can vote for the album (of the year?). By the way, Socrates, what are your top 5 of 2005?

a quality record, yet... I don't mind Ghiglioni, yet... Tenco appears like an unattainable star. For me, anyone who has grappled with his songs has not managed to grasp their complexity fully. Songs made of naivety and brutal lyricism, definitive declarations, fear, and infinite leaps into the void. The harmonic fabric typically Tencoesque, so close to the American song, reworked and held together by words of a ruthless and adolescent absoluteness. Just as Pavese loved American literature, Tenco loved American standards. It's a shame we lost both of them prematurely. It's a shame we no longer have the chance to listen to a "new" song by Tenco...

David Sylvian offers yet another interpretation of himself... an intense voice (at times hopelessly reminiscent of Nick Cave)... an album that provokes thought... perhaps music can still be a ground for men and women who have experienced something beyond a premature adolescence...
