for me, a disappointing album. amazing instead is the contradiction (intentionally or not?) rating/review in the brief space of a few pixels!

The album may not reach the heights of swoon and stevemcqueen, but it's still worth it. Paddy McAloon has "been through it all," and the face (as usual) reveals his misadventures in a disarming way. Of course, the golden years are gone... but I admire the guys (the real musicians) who keep making music for over twenty years and don't stop after the initial failures. Those who do what they need to do, despite everything, despite the fact that success no longer comes. Socratic, Cervantesque, and sublime.

The CD left me puzzled; the newspapers say that the group is very popular among trendy artists. Clearly, I'm neither in vogue nor artistic. I might raise a few eyebrows, but when I listen to something deeply characterized by the sounds of its origins, I always wonder what it feels like to those from the place. Just to understand better. It's like asking: does the strength of the record come from the fact that it is very 'different' from what we usually hear, or does it genuinely possess objective qualities? I find the answer difficult to pin down. Both when I watch the beautiful films of Iranian director Abbas Kiorostami and when I listen to CDs by Anouar Brahem (I like them, but my little lady doesn’t). When I have the chance, I will listen again. Or maybe it's just that lyrics are important to me and when I hear the Sigur Ros singing songs like Hopipolla or Sorglega, I barely understand a thing, and I fear my brain is turning to mush. I no longer know if they are singing in an obscure language or if I’m the one losing my mind… probably the latter. Or maybe it’s just that this afternoon I'm heading to the beach (with my little lady), and this album has nothing to do with palm trees; I’ll have to listen to it again this winter (when perhaps my little lady will have left me).

they were a great duo! when the "dui" were really popular. I also liked "song" (without exaggerating). then the fact that they 'sank' at the dawn of the '90s adds a bit of myth to their story. speaking of origins, I remember them as Manchesterian...

Socrates, here you are. You had to come back! Unfortunately, I can't experience the Ulyssean perception of return. This year, it's just fragmented vacations stolen from the lazy city. Here, Esthero has been very kind to me. But I've been kind to her as well. As for the rest, we have missed your comments a lot.

Now that you’re here, it's your turn for the review on the missing artist! :o)

Oh dear, what a shame! The gentleman who tidies up the house! Can you believe how foolish I am? I thought he had a cleaning lady. At least once a week. Alone (as usual!), I fear it will take him quite a while... I have the impression that he’s not quite all there anymore (he's not exactly a young man either)...

You’re right, old Odradek... after all, defining the reasons behind the birth of a work is an impossible task even for the artist themselves... not even God (if we could ask Him) would be able to tell us why He created this small and infinite world in such a hurry (in just six days!)...

undeniably impactful record. Back then, it pleased one of my souls (the more melancholic one) a lot, now perhaps I would like it less (even though I happen to listen to it again). Speaking of Ryder, I would have liked to spend some time with the kleptomaniac with the Audrey Hepburn-like face...
