You're such a piddicus! That is to say, you're nitpicking! What I wanted to criticize a bit in you was the tendency to overanalyze concepts that are, for me, objective. I completely understand that you have an "opinion" about it, but in my view, on the matter that "2001" and other Kubrick films (@ anonymous: I certainly wasn't referring to Shining, in fact, I never mentioned it) are OBJECTIVELY extended in their temporal duration, there's no room for "opinions"! So, if you want to interpret that slowness or alternation of rhythms however you like, I still believe that some things are not open to interpretation: opinions can be made about the content, about the signifier, about the meaning, about many things, but on a temporal issue that is what it is, I don’t think there’s much to question. It's a bit like if you have a cat, and you know that after a few months it’s already weaned: that's just how it is, after a few months mama cat doesn’t care! We can opine about its behavior, but not on the intrinsic fact! That’s my opinion ;oP

I like to stir the waters, hehe. Sure, what you’re saying is absolutely fine, with a few necessary clarifications. First of all, I never said that metalheads are a subgenre of intellectuals: you see, if there’s one thing a commenter should do, it’s to avoid putting words in the reviewer’s mouth that they never said at all, and this shows a lack of attention to reading the review, because the argument was clear. Moreover, you’re mistaken about stereotypes: I do have friends who lock me in a room and make me listen to Petrucci’s solos for hours, I truly have friends who have gotten hurt badly while moshing, I personally know people who play Zorba and Mazonakis for hours at birthday parties... feel free not to believe it, I based my points on lived experiences, I don’t think anyone here has ever mentioned the class of “metal musicians” and the like. The review was more provocative than ironic, and indeed you felt a bit “provoked”... no hard feelings ;)

Do you remember "The Third Man" by Carol Reed? Well, for me, that's a dynamic film.

You're getting thin. A dynamic film is a film that has a reason to exist as such. Don't play the usual pedantic game with words because everything can be said about 2001 except that it is a dynamic film, and above all, Kubrick's intention was certainly not to make a film of that kind! So let's not strip it of its essence: I know you didn't specifically mention 2001, but if you insist on saying that Kubrick's films should be read in terms of "alternation of rhythms," I don't completely agree, except for the aforementioned meaning. 2001, like EWS, Lolita, and even a large part of A Clockwork Orange, has tempos that the uninitiated call slow... if you want, we can soften it by saying they're tempos of meditation, but there's little to do: when the pace of the story is slower than the pace of the narration, the film can only proceed SLOWLY. Period. Don't assume that it's a negative connotation tout court; in my opinion, you're mistaken in this.

Let's call them "slow times," Hal, or "alternation of rhythms," as you say, where there are high and slow rhythms. I have always been a fair admirer of a more dynamic cinema, not particularly of Kubrick and Bergman, who nonetheless remain objectively among the greatest. Personal tastes, we're always there.

Genius, genius. Not difficult to absorb, there are sometimes a bit too many lulls.

I personally know this anonymous person. They hide for fear of being recognized, are a decent engineer but a terrible musician and music lover. I wonder, then, where their knowledge of the album comes from in order to vote for it. I believe they have confused Shostakovich with Smashing Pumpkins.

Enough with this nonsense: the physical approach between Kidman and Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut is clearly inspired by the mutual discovery of sexuality in the comic-sentimental masterpiece "Laguna Blu" by Kleiser, featuring the marvelous Brooke Shields.
