...what about the language? Did he sing in English or not? Or how do you want to communicate your own culture? From the titles, it really doesn't seem like it :)

Um, I checked, sorry but I must have seen Makeba's name among the "Composers" 8-9 times, which seems a bit few to me to count her among the singer-songwriters, or at least among authors capable of putting together such a complex project as N'Dour's. But I’m fine with her as a counterpoint; her name is certainly the most convincing even if...

Well, Clegg is not so unknown, but he serves the same function as Gabriel just as N'Dour serves the same as Mchunu, Clegg's protégé... well, I would say that the comparison, with all due respect to Clegg and Mchunu, is somewhat uneven ;)

My joy, even faster: first of all, by saying "sure, baby, it's obvious," I was responding to the makeba issue. As for the rest, Belafonte's music is, to be precise, Jamaican, but I don't understand how this could refute what I said before ;) Um, for the rest, I don't know how useful it is to do more research, after all, you're finding names that you know very well are not on the same level, in terms of fame, as Youssou, come on :D

Sure, baby, it’s obvious. Belafonte is a nice name too, his music is steeped in folklore, and from this perspective, we’re on the same page. However, I remain stubborn and still hold my ground, since Belafonte was an African American through and through: although he lived in Harlem, he produced music that had already been living in the American neighborhood for some time, infused with American (for territorial reasons) and African (for traditional reasons) elements, no more, no less. He had great international merits, but the figure of the African from Africa, Youssou, who learns to rework his own music through the Euro-American commercial culture fascinates me more. A more romantic story ;)
