Eh, Massi, but you’re talking about a whole series of aspects of different works! He’s done some light stuff, but also pieces of a certain stature, accessible works but also some that are quite challenging, some music that feels dated, and others that were groundbreaking (at least for the times they were composed). An eclectic character who has done it all. Morricone more avant-garde? I don’t know. For some pages, yes, probably. For others, I think Vangelis is ahead. Then again, these are debates driven by personal taste, I admit: certain pieces by our guy engage me even if they’re not that significant. I recognize his marvelous ability to create unique and captivating atmospheres.
