Incredible how this whole Fontana cuts affair repeats itself, how the same discussions about music come up again and are the same ones made in the review of Ringo's CCCP and Michael Nyman. Incredible how the same people have intervened and the issue has surfaced once again. And Luca thinks exactly as I do, in fact, I bet without knowing how much that given the references, coincidentally to Manzoni and Fontana (made by me in Nyman) and to the experimental Battiato (I also wrote reviews about him) and the mental gymnastics of musicians like this young lady have led more than one person to think that this Luca was me. But incredibly, it’s not so. Luca, please, let yourself be heard: we are one soul.

The fact that the name Kraut-Rock is no longer used nowadays limits your views by a thousand. I still listen to records of Ambient Electronics or Drone, quite a few. The fact that what Kraftwerk did is now called Electronic does not mean that it is no longer made or that it is dead. If there is something that still lives and continues to innovate, it is precisely electronics, and there’s little to do about it: it was born from the Kraut movement. I think that saying Kraut is dead is a colossal nonsense, and you only say it because instead of listening, you read the names they assign. The discourse of Neu! has evolved into rhythmic electronics, the discourse of Tangerine & Schulze has evolved into the drones of more minimal ambient, the discussion of the more particular works of Can and Amon Düül is still alive and is still called space-rock. Warp clearly derives from the most extreme Kraut, and you cannot say that Warp is not very active. The whole proposal that arose under the name "kraut-rock" still survives as a musical register in many, many bands, even more than progressive. It has just found a more suitable name, and the technologies for reproducing it have changed. Names are meant to help understand each other, not to limit perspectives. The Kraut movement contained many things, but there is a clear and distinct point in 90% of its groups: electronics, and it is very much alive.
