Battiato's early albums were undoubtedly precious, woven with captivating sounds and characterized by experiments that satisfied both personal and collective expectations (for the few who bought these records from the independent label Bla Bla); I must say I agree with voice regarding the evaluation of "L'Egitto," a piece that essentially provokes something as unthinkable as the previous "Za" by "Battiato": a wearing repetition of notes and chords à la Cage with the proposition of the idea of atemporal music drawing life and reason from pauses and variations in the use of the pedal during composition. Interesting ideas, falling flat. The idea of minimalistic variation, so dear to early Battiato, is expressed in a rather unconvincing manner in terms of results, and frankly, at least in the case of "L'Egitto," better could have been done, considering our artist shows, for example in captivating pieces like "Café-Table-Musik," that he can create an interesting and simultaneously listenable experimental work. M.lle Le Gladiator, which I found for 5 euros, is the dividing line: aside from the Dada collage of Goutez et Comparez, a good portion of the album is an exaggerated experimentalism that always remains the same. Then comes the aforementioned "Battiato," "Juke Box," and "L'Egitto." Among other things, I’d like to highlight one of the most beautiful pieces from the first Franco in the second album: the icy "Hiver," for piano and voice. For those who are not familiar with it, I recommend giving it a listen.
