superficial and predictable MTV singer. Someone shouted miracle at her first appearance, but I've always maintained it was a bluff.

For me, this is an excellent album; compared to its predecessors, it has a much more suitable sound balance for the themes that Cocker has always addressed (here, as in the others, he maintains a high compositional level both musically and lyrically). Perhaps this is precisely due to the influence exerted by one of his mentors, namely the legendary Scott Walker, who is also the producer here in addition to being a source of inspiration.

This is an extraordinary record. I recommend it along with filmworks vol.8, vol.9, vol.10, vol.11, vol.12, and vol.14 (probably the best).

Unforgettable first LP (even if it's slightly inferior to the astonishing EP of their debut) still loving this album or just the early records of this exceptional band does not justify belittling their sonic development (at most, one can disagree or rationalize, but denigrating with merely "stale, elaborated studio effects" is unwarranted) also because the nostalgic was never considered in the flaminglipsian thought since, like all greats know well, sound is in constant evolution. So, kudos for the choice of the album and for the review, which is truly wonderful, apart from this obtuse, rogue nostalgia that ruins everything.

beautiful review. a very beautiful album that went against the entire flower-power movement.

I don't really agree with or like this review; there are perhaps too many comparisons with his predecessor I see a darkness and with this sense of sadness and loneliness that almost seems obligatory for Oldham's listeners, who fortunately knows how to balance lights and shadows very well. I absolutely don't believe that this is a heterogeneous album that doesn't capture love immediately; on the contrary, it's the most immediate one in his discography and musically the most homogeneous, without perhaps.

This is also a nice review. However, Gainsbourg is certainly not the most prolific author of the 20th century, nor has he been inconsistent, so Mr.Nobodynoparty, are you sure you understand who we're talking about? And how can you judge his discography if you've only listened to compilations? I recommend you go and check out the albums; you might change your mind. As for the rest, I agree with you, morningstar, about the choice to summarize the plot, because I believe it is more than useful since not many people understand French (myself included) - by the way, do you know where to find his lyrics or if there are translations in Italian or English?

Truly beautiful. Finally, a review worthy of a masterpiece. I don't agree with Fosca's comment, because you managed to explain well what this album is, and for those who don't know it, I believe your review can spark curiosity to listen. You did well to talk about the story that this work tells, especially since there is much more known about Gainsbourg as a character than about his music and lyrics. I also note with pleasure that there are many fans of this fantastic artist, and I would like to ask you what you think of the two tribute albums that Mick Harvey dedicated to him and of his films as a director.

I know the version of Somewhere over the rainbow. It's always been one of Wayne's favorite songs, even though they play If I Only Had a Brain much more often (also from The Wizard of Oz).

I am a huge fan and your review is a nice surprise, making the wait to listen even more impatient.
p.s. anyway, the early Flaming Lips are definitely not the same as Transmission... are you sure you didn't miss an episode?
