David Gray A New Day At Midnight
Voto:
Has anyone listened to and feels like reviewing David Gray's new album, Life in Slow Motion?

Not even sideways does it fit in the CD holder. I wanted to clarify that. It’s sitting outside along with the box sets. It's now a philosophical issue.

Introduction: this has nothing to do with the album or the review. I randomly chose a review.
I've been ordering records online for quite some time, but I'm noticing that on Fandango and Cdbox the processing times are stretching to absurd lengths. Every time, there's always a longer wait. It's clear that I'm not ordering records that can be found in supermarkets, but we've gone from roughly two weeks to over four or five weeks. And maybe even more. I don't know! That seems like a lot, considering it's their job and that's all they do. Luckily, they're not medications.

Yet I occasionally check Scaruffi's reviews on his website, and even though I almost never agree with what he says, I must admit that sometimes he's right in not praising works that elsewhere are labeled as masterpieces. But a 7 for Aqua and a 7 for Sgt. Pepper?!?!? Are we in a glue factory?

Reading a bit of everything that is written above, I was struck by the 7 given to Aqua by Scaruffi. I went to check, and it's true! He basically equated Aqua to Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road by the Fab Four. All the other works of the Beatles are considered inferior. Even a 3! for Help!. Is there anyone else in the world who thinks this way? I am speechless.

It may be a nice record, but you know how we say here in Tuscany? ...de' na mattonata !! Does it get the idea across?

The Downward Spiral fits poorly, but I can manage to squeeze it in a bit. I have Vitalogy on vinyl. I hate box sets and they’re all on their own. But for CDs that, in addition to the standard case, also have a cardboard sleeve (like the last two by Wilco, or Antics by the Interpol), what do you do? They don't fit either. Existential problems, huh?!?

I support Socrates. An artist who, in his own way, marked an era. I also agree on the validity of the subsequent Slave To The Rhythm, which, if you listen to it closely, is a brilliant album. It’s practically built entirely, or almost, on the idea of the title track.

Ask Scaruffi what he thinks of this record.

But damn it, they made a disc format that doesn't fit in any binder or stacker. They really want to be unique.
