Scritti Politti White Bread Black Beer

I am always doubtful about these eighties pop revivals, even more so if I think that in that decade I had relegated Scritti Politti to the second or third tiers of pop. I prefer the subsequent Provision to Cupid & Psyche 85, and that’s where my knowledge ends. Undoubtedly, Gartside has talent, but are you sure he has expressed it fully? It's a bit like Roddy Frame. It seems to me that they always stop just a step before.
Kyuss Welcome To Sky Valley

A curiosity. But is this album simply titled "Kyuss" or is it actually titled "Welcome To Sky Valley?" It seems to me that the title is "Kyuss" and then, for convention and to understand and be understood better, it has become "Welcome To Sky Valley." Just out of curiosity and precision.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends - Ladies And Gentlemen

Despite the fact that progressive is a genre I quite like, I must say that I pretty much hate ELP, if only because they managed to discredit the genre and belittle it more than it actually deserves. Extremists to the point of absurdity will do even worse with the subsequent Works during the peak punk era. What timing! And then Emerson's organ blasts, just to say "look how good I am!" have always annoyed the hell out of me. In comparison, the suites of the early Genesis are three-minute pop songs.

Surely for those who don't love progressive, it sounds more like a threat than a title.

When I bought "The Hour Of Bewilderbest" by the great (also physically) Badly Drawn Boy, I read that a debut of such magnitude could be compared to this one being reviewed. In my opinion, not only is the comparison not really relevant, but we're also on two completely different levels. I don't know how the subsequent ones are, but this one didn't motivate me to continue exploring his work.

I couldn't write like Socrates even if I earned a dozen degrees. It's no coincidence that I'm an accountant. My life drowns in numbers!!

I listened to it all again last night while the images of France-Italy were playing on the monitor (I still wonder how we managed to win the World Cup with a team of modest football workers). It's a decent album but nothing exceptional. It pulls from here and there. Take It Up seems to come straight from Bob Dylan's Desire, while in another track, you can almost hear Prince's falsetto. A special mention goes to God On My Side. When he wrote it, maybe God was truly on his side.
Renato Zero Zeromovimento, Tour 2006 (dvd)

Indeed, I can understand that Carmen Consoli might not be quite to everyone's taste. I don't mind her, but to be honest, she has a rather "unique" way of singing and a vocal tone that is quite distinct. Since I caught a glimpse of her at Festivalbar last night (my daughter watches it, to be clear), I must say that Gianna Nannini also belongs to the small circle of artists I tend to avoid. Quite ungainly!

Despite having nothing against Renato Zero, I am quite proud of not owning even a single 45 RPM from him. It’s just how it is; there are singers who irritate me regardless. Among them, I also include Lucio Dalla and Riccardo Cocciante. It’s hard to believe that I don’t like anything from this trio, so I must conclude that these three gentlemen have something that clashes with my eardrums. I was discussing this matter with my wife the other day, and I still can’t find a plausible explanation for it. This isn’t the case, for example, with Claudio Baglioni or Antonello Venditti, just to name a couple of artists from the same category.

Wow, I have this album. I haven't listened to it in ages, and to be honest, I'm struggling quite a bit to remember it. I need to go give it another listen in the next few days. Sometimes there are albums that don’t get the attention they deserve, and this could be a glaring example. Socrates is great as always. P.S. Regarding Mucchio Extra and Prince, I have to say you are absolutely right in stating that Mucchio has snubbed him for years, but it’s also true that those at Rockstar were hyping up his talents and merits even for every little thing he did, which made me hate him for a while. And then there's the fact that they included Parade, maybe because Purple Rain was in another list and they had already discussed it.
