Decent album, but in the Queen discography, this isn't a 5. Some tracks are a bit too weak and leave no mark (IMO). "The Works" is definitely superior to its predecessor "Hot Space" but is inferior to what is to come (A Kind Of Magic).

Well done, Grasshopper! You expressed it perfectly when you said it's a record of absolute enjoyment!!! This masterpiece takes a little time to warm up, but once you’ve absorbed it, it doesn’t let you go. However, you could have mentioned "Do Do"; in my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful tracks in here!

Sad or not sad, this album is (almost) beautiful all the way through! How can one resist the spectacular slowness of "Cars Hiss By My Window," and not try to sing along with that voice of a fat, drunken old man? Spectacular! L.A. Woman (the song) still shakes me to this day, not to mention the lightness of Hyacinth House, simple but always perfect.

A detailed review enough to pique the reader's interest... Personally, I don't dislike Virtual XI at all, quite the opposite! But if you try to tell an Iron Maiden fan that it's a good work, you get executed on the spot!! Blaze is clearly inferior to Dickinson, and his voice often irritates me, but the songs are very good, especially 3 or 4; I can only imagine how thrilling they would sound sung by Bruce! To rediscover this CD, you need to listen to it without prejudice, starting from the fact that Bruce and Blaze are two different voices (unfortunately!).

Anyway, it's not their best album, you'll realize that in a few months when, if you feel like listening to something by Oasis, you'll grab one of the first two, trust me! Of course, compared to "Standing.." or "Heathen..." it’s a step forward!
