@psycho: the Spartans saw themselves as defenders of freedom and indeed they were there to defend themselves (not far from home, by the way, unlike the Americans in the Middle East...). Put it how you want, they may have been many steps below Athens as a civilization, but how would you have behaved if barbarian Asians (that's how the Persians were seen) led by a pompous fool (yes, Xerxes was exactly that) showed up at your doorstep asking you to hand over your home without a word?

the Spartans were warmongers. period. not the movie. when it comes to tastes, I don’t want to argue; every rating is relative: if I give a 5 to this, then I’ll decide how to rate Fellini (who might get different scores depending on the films, for example, I might give a 3 to Prova D'Orchestra but only in relation to the career of the Romagnolo director). sorry, but who are you to be indignant? to lay down the law? to speak on behalf of every cinephile? you see, Pole', it’s not the rating that is annoying (everyone is free), it’s your tone of “I know everything, I am intelligent, I am the standard, and anyone who disagrees with me doesn’t understand anything” that is bothersome.

Well, The Consequences of Love is a masterpiece. It could be the music, the framing, the credits, or the final scene, it could be Servillo, but that film truly made me fall in love. By the way, I saw it in the cinema... so that’s why I’m a little bit... good review.

Regarding the controversies surrounding this film, I completely agree with Fritz: controversy = nonsense. At most, it's pro-Greek propaganda. And clearly, when it comes to historical accuracy, I would say it’s not required at all.
