...Music is not a stock market investment that needs to yield returns in more or less time; music is ā€œsensations,ā€ plain and simple: so if this album gives you sensations (good or bad, it doesn’t matter), then great, but it doesn't produce anything for me, so I can do without it even if in 2080 our grandchildren will listen to it aboard their fucking spaceships. This, in my opinion, is precisely the point: when you compare the misunderstood genius of Van Gogh (a very commonly used argument in TV auctions to sell pseudo artists), it seems to me that you speak like those art dealers who can only see the economic return that art will have over the years, they know everything about art history but lose the essence of it. Because if in twenty years no one recognizes you that Patton is a genius, does it change anything about the value you're attributing to him? If it does, then it means that you actually don’t like this album; if it doesn’t change anything (as I assume), then listen to it without worrying about what your grandchildren will say or without betting too much on it to convince others of its value. The risk that people like Patton run is to produce experiments that are self-serving, and we’ll see if he’ll be able to finalize these albums, which I think are transitional to something now unimaginable; and in my opinion, he has the fortune of making albums that he needs to try, and in the meantime, he still sells because his fans buy everything he does, and in this regard, he is definitely privileged compared to other unknowns... so whether he is a genius or not, unfortunately, we still have to wait to say.

x cosmogabri = looking in the mirror is a metaphor, I would never dare to judge anyone personally in this situation, the beauty of "living" music and not just "hearing" it is that everyone perceives it differently, and whether we agree or not is just an encouragement to broaden our views. As for hurting oneself, you are right, and in this, I'm always great... J
x puntiniCAZpuntini = so, let me start: I consider Patton one of the most important musical figures of the last twenty years. I remember some friends denigrating Faith No More because they thought they were too commercial (back then they were among the most aired bands on videomusic, much more than Franz Ferdinand today!), but in my opinion, they represented something new, perhaps together with Kyuss, they were among the bands that managed to bring metal where no one could have imagined yet... That said, it seems premature to compare Patton to Zappa, I currently see them with very different cultural depths. Zappa is truly a genius even though I haven't listened to him in ages and I don’t feel the need to listen to him again (at the moment), and anyway, I can’t say I like Zappa unconditionally; some things I like and others I can't stand, but that doesn't take anything away from my judgment of him. The same goes for Patton: if I think of his bands (from Mr. Jungle to Fantomas to Tomahawk and the myriad of collaborations from Björk to Black Flag, etc.), the amount of music produced is incredible, but there are some things I really like and others that don’t mean a damn to me; I don't give a damn if my nephew will like it when I can't stand it, just because I want to be forward-thinking or to avoid being called a loser by my nephew doesn't mean I have to endure 60 minutes of various dullness...

... I, on the other hand, am tired of spending a lot of money to listen to the mental cages that the latest schizophrenic wants to shove down my throat. 10 minutes of acceptable music if I'm lucky, while the cost is that of an entire CD.
"..every three months (and I mean every three, if not two) I have a new job at hand" = It's a matter of choices: those who settle for quantity, I always prefer quality.
Surely for our image as refined and unconventional people, it’s better to speak well of a Patton album than of Franz Ferdinand, but in the morning when you wake up and look in the mirror, what the hell do you think of your constant acting?? And please don’t mix Zappa with Patton.

...in fact, "...but also a bit too much better than Interpol and Franz Ferdinand." you didn't really write that, did you? I was responding to this phrase, which seems a bit thrown in there. I just wanted to understand better why this group is better than the others? Because they sell less, then they are better? Because they are less well-known? For the genre they make (so if I hated reggae, would Bob Marley have to be a clown?!?!)? I really like Jarcrew, but I can't say they are better than a band that does a completely different genre; otherwise, I fall into the usual cliché, which always wants critics against whoever has (perhaps deservedly) success, that's all. As for magazines, well, they also thrive on what record labels give them, it's up to us to find reviewers who seem more reliable (in my opinion, they don't exist; it's business, baby! and that's why I'm trying with the forum). One last thing: I listened to Interpol right after a One Dimensional Man concert at Bloom, so you can imagine: complete rejection. Some time later, after a few more listens, I noticed that I started bouncing in the car, singing their songs alone, undeniable signs that the music was getting inside me; fuck the magazines, fuck if they are fashionable, I like them, do I understand a damn thing about music? fuck this too!!! Of course, every time their concert poster appeared at C-Side, I was pretty disgusted looking at them, and I don't care about their live shows... the fact remains that I really like Antics. And now I'm saying nothing more about Interpol; as you guys said, it's already been talked about enough, I'll leave space for the honest and engaging Jarcrew... wow, new album coming out, huh? Good to know...

x dotindots : oh really??? interesting (so to speak) this comparison, and who would the jarcrew be according to your logic? do you know what I think of this comparison of yours (and certainly not because I want to defend the interpol, far from it!!!)??? I think you don't realize it, but they've locked you in a cage of mirrors. You look around and you can't even see yourself. They're fucked-up mirrors, reflecting only what they want them to reflect. They force you to live in a world of ghosts, and what's worse, the ghosts are always the same. You turn on the television and they enter your brain and never leave. The ghosts. The usual ghosts. The ghosts and the mummies that have been living in your television for thirty years have forever conquered your mind and won’t let you use it unless it's to worship their bulky and useless presence to the point of nausea. Think about it, it’s no coincidence that you brought up pippobaudo...
Take me out tonight
Where there’s music and there’s people
And they’re young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven’t got one
Anymore

I really enjoyed reading about this group that gave me uncontrollable movements, but...I just don't get what the comparison between this group and Interpol is all about. They make totally different genres, evoke different feelings with different moods. It's like comparing a Mercedes to a Porsche; just because I like the Mercedes doesn't mean the Porsche is bad, right? And if we think that groups with strong marketing behind them (and Interpol has that) dress like posers (and Interpol does), and start to become famous (well, they are less famous than many others), in short, a group that has all these characteristics must automatically suck—well, who knows how many great things you might be missing out on...

So, here’s my experience with the Delgados: Saturday before Christmas, I buy 4 CDs (it doesn’t often happen that I manage to spend all that money, but you know how the consumerist euphoria is…): Isis - !!! - Radio Dept - and this one by the Delgados. I kind of knew the first three, while for the Delgados I trusted the label, a review I read who knows where (strange, usually I don’t trust) and the cover that, for some reason, I really liked. So as soon as I got in the car all excited (you know how it feels when you hear a band for the first time, right?), I inject them into the player and... miiiiii, what a disappointment! I should mention that it’s not my genre; everything is nicely precise and even a bit cloying. They gave me the impression of bland pop, which has very little underground about it. So I repack everything, go back to the shopkeeper who exchanges it without saying a word (it’s clear he had a guilty conscience…heh heh heh) and I get the second CD by Bark Psychosis...aaaah what a breath of fresh air, sound waves recommended to all cosmonauts (in my opinion, sirchia will ban it as a psychoactive substance in every way!!!!!)

x Gianni Bella = I'm very glad you appreciate the Calla, let's say Televise is one of the most beautiful discoveries I've made lately, they often keep me company during the night hours, I would love to see them live (I know they came to Conchetta last year, definitely worth keeping an eye on).
