Spike Lee 25th Hour

In my opinion, you didn't understand a damn thing about this movie, and especially don't talk about a city you've only seen on television in Emilio Fede's news. Instead, wait for them to make a film about Bonate Sopra, which I don't know where it is but I assume you might know it better...is the character in question "supercommon" for Lee? OH MY GOD WHAT A STUPID THING YOU'RE SAYING...it's not possible...I have to skip you otherwise every time I read you, I get a mix of sadness and giggles...even the story that in America they take things lighter...we're talking about a police force that has the highest rate of reports for murder and torture as well as abuse of power, and a state where there is the death penalty and you tell me that things are better in Italy??? Why don't you try reviewing video games?

And now the one I'm most attached to, I broke a tooth while pogoing to it, but it was worth it, now I have a metal tooth but a beautiful memory of that concert:
You know what luck it is to be free
To be susceptible to freedoms that seem infinite
And never knowing what to wear
Where to go dancing, whom to call
You know what luck it is to be free
To be susceptible to freedoms that seem infinite
Stupefying, stupid, seductive
Stupefying, stunning, intoxicating
The world crumbles, rolls away
It happens, it happened, it crumbles and goes
The world crumbles, rolls away
It happens, it happened, it crumbles and goes
Narcotic, frantic, eager, exciting
Stupefying, drug dealer
Stupefying, abolitionist
Stupefying, prohibitionist
Stupefying, rampant socialist
Stupefying, suffocating progressive
Stupefying, tonight I’m staying out
I’m driving to the sea
I’m looking to hook up
The sweet life
The sweet life
The sweet life

Uff.. reading the thoughts on communism brings to mind this song of theirs, of course sung like only Giovanni Lindo can:
States of agitation in the body, in the head
sunken, shiny eyes
troubles with the breath
my breath quickens
and yet I am alive
states of agitation
states of agitation
states of agitation between ideas, on the skin
I have to hold on, I have to be present
it's better, worse, something more than nothing
something more than nothing
states of agitation in me, in my veins
states of agitation and never anything more

These have made history; this album represents a milestone for European punk, raw music, direct, immediate, that oozes blood, from the barricades of those who in those years found themselves occupying houses or taking to the streets to scream their anger. I find it hard to choose my favorite. Lyrics understandable only to those who have lived certain situations; for others, well... they have to settle for criticizing the cover!
p.s. - Certain words like Compagno, Togliatti, etc., are better left unspoken if you don't know their meaning; it makes for a better impression.

It's not fair, if you mention authors I adore and musical references like that, how can I not go buy it????

Seeing this movie as the story of a group of junkies is reductive. Remember the opening line? It went something like this: "Choose a life, choose a job, choose a career. Choose a damn giant screen TV, etc. etc.......choose to rot in some horrible old folks' home just a source of embarrassment for those selfish and spoiled brats you spawned to replace you." Beautiful; it reminded me of the CCCP when they sang "Produci, Consuma, Crepa"!!!
The logic of the film goes far beyond the morality of drug use (thankfully), and it really leaves no escape route, flushing down the toilet any attempt at optimism.
As for the music, I found it beautiful and fitting for the genre... one of the best soundtracks in recent times for me. I would gladly watch it again...

This, among all the things he did with the Pogues, is the least beautiful in my opinion. Personally, I saw him drinking in a bar in Milan, and it's impressive the liters of beer/whiskey he downs; by the end of the night, he was literally under the table, and that alone is enough to consider him one of the greats. With his songs, he has brought joy to many bands that shamelessly copied him (e.g., MCR), and nonetheless, some of his ballads remain in the history of music:
Hello old Shan, tonight I will dedicate a pint to your hide...
I've been loving you a long time
Down all the years, down all the days
And I've cried for all your troubles
Smiled at your funny little ways
We watched our friends grow up together
And we saw them as they fell
Some of them fell into Heaven
Some of them fell into Hell
...goodbye to hell, old sponge.
