Like sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a coffee, the rhythmic clinking of the spoon on the ceramic. The feel of home. A sober atmosphere, subtle, ethereal yet fragrant, never boring.
Like Erri De Luca and Hanif Kureishi discussing Carver, in a bar of the lowlands, with little fog outside, muffled noises from the surrounding countryside.
Like meeting up with friends you haven't seen in a while, who have grown, matured, without losing the spark, the flair that you always liked about them.

This was listening to the new Valentina Dorme album.
Since the release of Capelli Rame, I had been waiting for this moment: like someone returning home after a long journey, I immediately took a look around the rooms... 11 songs floating between the best of Italian songwriting and the distorted sirens of a certain America (Sonic Youth) and a certain Italy (Marlene Kuntz), but which are most of all Valentina.
Pigozzo Favero's voice is more mature, braver in exploring new paths: the guitars follow it, with lyrics that are never trivial, often bewildering.

Little big gems: Il mare, Teatro Leggero, Canzone di lontananza, L'amore a 30 anni... where they reach unimaginable heights for the average bands (not just Italian ones). Last but not least, "Il giorno 303" is the unexpected: Valentina playing with computers. Perhaps a gamble, but the result is there, reminding us that class is timeless and (perhaps) opening new horizons for the sleeping girl.
What can I say... it's nice to embrace old friends again! I can only recommend that you spend a few € (I paid 13) to add something unique to your CD collection.
P.S.: the Valentina website is also beautiful... I recommend a visit.
