I must preface that I can't stand Post-Rock (to me, it's a surrogate for hyper-dilated and pseudo-intellectual progressive rock, an absolutely personal opinion), except for Neurosis, which I wouldn't know how to define... I agree about The Mars Volta, even though they haven't come close to the stunning first album, but they are beautifully eccentric, blending progressive rock and schizoid psychedelia to my taste. Gordian Knot is very beautiful, but hard to digest, which is not a flaw. The future of Prog? I have to say that the OSI project with Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Kevin Moore (Chroma Key), Sean Malone (Ex-Aghora, Ex-Cynic) has shown the direction to move towards... it may be liked or not, but it is truly hyper-experimental and Kevin Moore's voice, reminiscent of Waters, adds that little bit of Pink Floyd that never fades away...

Prog-Metal is not crap... it becomes crap when it turns into something devolved, inconclusive, and flashy... Symphony X has Power origins (so a bit of flashiness is normal), but the last album is awesome, you haven't even listened to it in my humble opinion... and anyway, Meshuggah also does Prog-Metal and they are not traditional...

Masterpiece...genius...even though it's Brutal in nature, it's very listenable even for those who don't love these sounds...I prefer Epitaph...but this is spectacular nonetheless...
To respond to that idiot who gave you a 1...yes, in Death Metal there are plenty of geniuses, just like there are brilliant musicians in any musical genre...
