I don’t criticize those who make money from music, but those who make music for the sake of money. There are people who started from nothing, maybe from a garage, with the intent of pursuing a passion and showing everyone their music, their art, really working hard for it, believing in what they were doing. On the other hand, there are those who auditioned because they wanted to break through, make a lot of money, and become famous; they saw that they were a good-looking person, maybe didn’t have a great voice, nor much creativity, but hey, computers work wonders and there’s always someone who writes songs for you, and within an album, they already had in their pocket the equivalent, if not double, of what someone who worked hard their whole life through rejected demos, pub concerts, crappy productions, broken vans, etc. That’s how I divide musicians, aside from rare exceptions. Antichrist Superstar deserved to be a great album, but the rest, especially recently, is really just a commercial hit. All that exaggeration, that shocking, all that irreverence are simply tools he skillfully uses to sell himself and achieve success, all image, in short.
