Bloc Party Silent Alarm

holy words humax holy words. sure, these hyped groups won't make music history (as you rightly say, it's often the less hyped ones that do) but that doesn't mean they make poor music. I find Bloc Party to be fun. maybe they deserved three stars instead of four. the album does dip a bit in the second half. but it's not bad at all.

maybe. I’ve never seen them live and they are one of the few bands I’d like to see that I haven’t. Unfortunately, they hardly ever come to Italy, also because they are not very appreciated. It’s true that they are a bit on the decline. Their early albums were better. The peak, for me, is Radiator. However, it's a band I always follow and I will continue to buy their albums.

Alright. I hadn’t noticed it was the 2500. But Kosmo, don’t you think you’re overreacting by considering Bloc Party a ringtone band? The album isn’t a masterpiece but it’s at a good level. It’s enjoyable and tries to stay relevant throughout its duration. At first I didn’t like it, but then it convinced me. Regarding the above debate, I believe the truth lies somewhat in the middle; on one hand, it’s not like we’re getting great masterpieces, but on the other hand, the way we consume music has changed to be much faster and more distracted. Today, with the internet and copies, we have the chance to listen to a lot more music, and so we also dedicate less time to albums that are still valid. Whether a band is a one-hit wonder or not will be determined by their second and third efforts. Interpol, for example, have held up quite well. But have you listened to the album?

Great review. The album is good. Not a 5-star rating in my opinion. The second half is weaker. However, I agree that it's a solid effort. Definitely better than the previous one.

ehm obviously the genre is not trash metal. I don’t know. Is there indie folk? Otherwise, it should be added.
Interpol Live @ Velvet RIMINI (02/12/2004 )

Dear DJ, I downloaded the EP by Bloc Party. Not bad. It seems really fun. But it's still hard to judge their true value. The EP feels in line with a certain dancey rock vibe like Franz Ferdinand, maybe with a bit more complexity. What do you think about what you saw live?

I saw them in Dublin during the tour for their first album. I went with high hopes. They were good but distant. As you say. The exact same impression. I thought maybe it was just an off night or the venue wasn’t great. At this point, it seems that unfortunately, it’s a characteristic of their live shows.

It's surprising to use the word gray to define the 90s. There was a lot of creativity in the nineties. It started with shoegazing, then madchester, grunge, electronics, brit-pop, Radiohead. It seems to me there was something for everyone...
AA.VV. Rough Trade Shops - Indiepop Vol.1
Voto:
Oh dear Francis, I’m trying but it’s tough. In Italy, indie pop isn’t exactly the most popular genre. Still, I would just need to convince a few. By the way, this compilation also includes some more well-known groups. We have one of the early tracks from My Bloody Valentine (very good, no noise but truly a great example of indie pop), one of the very first from Primal Scream (completely different from their later incarnation), the more famous "You Trip Me Up" by Jesus and Mary Chain and "Hypocrite" by Lush, a track from Wedding Present, etc. But I assure you that often the songs from the lesser-known bands are even better.

Nice review. Great choice and good content. I've been thinking for a while about buying this CD after reading some very intriguing reviews. Is it about pioneers of post-rock? I think I've also seen it at a good price around.
