The Jam All Mod Cons

I grew up in the 80s and there was great music. I find it to be a cliché to say that the 80s were horrible without even knowing them. Besides, commercial bands were much more fun and ironic back then (Frankie goes to Hollywood, Dead or Alive, Bronsky Beat); in the 80s, there were mind-blowing groups like Fall, Smiths, Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, New Order, Sonic Youth, Cure, My Bloody Valentine, and many more. There was a rich underground scene. I find these years much more dreadful. Every now and then there are some good records even now, of course, but the average mainstream production is horrendous and the underground is mediocre.

I don't know Snap. Maybe you can review Sound Affects, which is a nice album even though I prefer All Mod Cons. How is Setting Sons? I saw it on sale and it was tempting. What do you think of The Style Council? I have Our Favourite Shop on vinyl, and despite some dips, it has some remarkable tracks. Paul Weller also shows, in The Style Council, that he has a huge pop talent beyond the cultured aspirations of the project.

Great review. The description of the album is spot on. The album is a bit challenging at times, but it’s still a fantastic work. Lydon showed with PIL that he wasn't a fool like Vicious. It had been suspected, but no one expected him to be, musically, far more innovative and influential than in his previous incarnation as Johnny Rotten.

nice easy review. about Mudhoney I don't know... I have their first self-titled album, even got it on vinyl when it came out. I remember I liked it at first but then I abandoned it. then I have Five Dollar's Mock... an EP on CD that didn’t seem like much to me. and also a vinyl where Sonic Youth do "Touched Me I'm Sick" by Mudhoney and Mudhoney do a track by Sonic Youth. I got it in London when I was young...

Thank you, easy. So what are you doing for Sonic Youth?
Stereolab Oscillons From The Anti-Sun

So we saw the same tour. It was really beautiful. On one hand, I'm glad I got to see them in their final lineup before fate took its toll. Now it's not clear how they're going to manage. For the 2004 album, Laetitia sang some of Mary's parts, but it seems like a temporary solution. And live they have difficulties without the interchange of voices.

Hi Fosca, I'm glad I pushed you to spend... that was my goal, he he, it really is worth it. I repeat: it costs little and the live images (unfortunately only 3 songs) are moving. I had the luck to see them live in 2001 in Dublin (before Mary Hansen's death) and they were fantastic. Different from the album. Less refined, rawer but very united, harmonious, intense. One of the most beautiful concerts I've ever seen. Peng is good but maybe the other ones mentioned are a bit superior.

Nice review. But don’t stop now! The Blur are definitely much better than Oasis. Their self-titled album is interesting as well. And especially "13" is quite fascinating on the more experimental side. On the britpop front, I wouldn’t overlook Modern Life is Rubbish either.

Hi Easy. As for the albums (and not the compilations), I agree with Samterra. The more experimental Stereolab ones can be found in Transient Random Noise Bursts with Announcements (experimental and very beautiful), while the other great album is Emperor Tomato Ketchup. This compilation is convenient because it's cheap and includes a lot of stuff, including videos and the 3 live appearances which are really nice. Another notable compilation is the BBC Sessions one (see my review). Alright, I’ll copy some things for you. I'm always available to spread the Word of Stereolab.

in agreement with perez. one of the best of depeche. perhaps too underrated. here is the house is beautiful but it’s the overall dark and menacing mood that characterizes the album as one of the most successful aesthetic statements by depeche mode.
