Well, the tools don't really do nu-metal even though whenever it's mentioned, it refers to that genre, despite moving away from it quite a bit... As for APC, the metal influences are there; just listen to the first album. The second already has different sounds, but they still have significant hard rock and metal influences, in my opinion.
