Sonic Youth & Fantômas live @ Ferrara Sotto le Stelle

The I SY live are amazing, I saw them at the Independent last year and was blown away. I haven't had the chance to see Fantômas live yet, but given Patton and the crew's craziness, they must have definitely destroyed everything ;-))

But will he/she be 13 years old?

I didn't go see them in Milan just for this reason. I downloaded two live performances and I was amazed by the pity of their live shows: an immobile singer with hemorrhoids, a drugged guitarist who can't hit a single riff, just the drummer and the bassist manage to save it. Really overrated.

Zero flat, just like my grade for every Dream Theater album I've listened to. I can already tolerate Angra a bit more...

The single sucks, I haven't listened to anything else.

I confirm jarda, "Big Calm" is a must for after or before the disco (when I suddenly become a DJ at some random little parties, I always play it, and then we go with K&D, Tosca, Felix Da Housecat, Faithless, Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Prodigy and whoever else you can think of :D)

I saw them live at Flippaut and I liked them a lot: they were chaotic and engaging just enough, plus there were also millions of hot girls dancing around me, which definitely bumps up the rating :-)))

For me, "Charango" deserves it too anyway, the one with "Otherwise" ;-)

Big Calm, by the way, is not the debut, but the second album. The first is called "Morcheeba" and was released in '95. In the series "Absurd bands live on a show for idiots," the Nirvana and Sonic Youth performed on Avanzi (a great show). Then of course, how could we forget the incredible performance by the Purulent Spermcanal on La Ruota Della Fortuna, with Mike Bongiorno hitting customers with a big paddle and shouting AHI! AHI! AHI! AHI in growl?

Trivial as a comment, MotoSega, Morcheeba are definitely not one of those many Festivalbar bands (even if, alas, they have passed through there, but so did RHCP and Ben Harper ;-)) Listen to "Big Calm," then maybe you'll reconsider, or perhaps you'll still find them off-putting, who knows... In fact, calling them masters of downtempo is a bit of an exaggeration; if anyone is, it’s Kruder & Dorfmeister, at the very least Melchiorre and Baldassarre.
